Stigma and discrimination take a toll on people’s lives and health. The effect on people who identify as LGBTQ is profound: a lifespan that is up to 12 years shorter than straight people. In 2022 alone, over 250 bills were introduced to legalize discrimination against LGBTQ people. In 2021 — in the midst of the pandemic — more than half (56%) of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer people experienced discrimination
from a healthcare professional. ” Just Us” is a film about the challenges LGBTQ people face on a daily
basis. And the humanity and strength of this community – a community that has been whispered and shouted at, legislated against, and marginalized – and all the while, shows what courage, resilience, and belonging really look like.
