Catch a vibe! Boulder’s Story Slam hosts the first slam of 2022 – in person!

March 13, 2021: Boulder’s Story Slam will bring storytellers and audiences together in the same room for their first in-person event in 2022.

Over the past 2 years of the pandemic, Boulder’s Story Slam and The Dairy Arts have hosted 7 virtual slam as well as 3 hybrid slams – with audiences safely gathering at The Dairy, and others streaming in from their living rooms. These events have helped people across the country stay connected through story and the story-telling community.

Johanna Walker, founder of Boulder’s Story Slam, and co-host Macy Matarazzo will take the stage on March 13th, 2022 at 7pm MT to host a night of great stories told by audience members who are vying for a turn at the mic.

The structure is simple: There’s a theme for the night. (This month’s theme is CATCH). Audience members put their name in a hat if they want to tell a story. If their name gets picked, they come to the stage to tell a true, 5 minute story based on the theme — all without notes. At the end of the night the audience votes on the best story.

“You can just never tell how a story’s going to go,” says Carroll Loyer, long-time listener and fan of Boulder’s Story Salm. “Even though the stories are connected by a theme, I am often delightfully surprised by the creativity and emotion present in the different stories that people share.”

In partnership with The Dairy Arts Center, Boulder’s Story Slam is hosted and produced by Johanna Walker, public speaking coach and lover of all things story.  At the “Catch” slam, Johanna will be joined on the stage by co-host, Macy Matarazzo, a love and relationship coach who’s spent many years on stage as an improviser and theater artist.

For each show, Boulder’s Story Slam invites a guest musician to join the fun.  Singer songwriter Rachel Taulbee will round out the night with delightful stories in the form of songs played on her ukelele.

BOULDER’S STORY SLAM will take place on March 13th in person at the Grace Gamm Theater. Doors open at 6:45pm MT. Show starts at 7pm. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online (https://thedairy.org/event/boulder-story-slam-catch/) or at the door.
