Age Group: Middle-school and up
Materials: This workshop assumes that the participant is already engaged in making movies in some form and has those resources at their disposal.
Rather than a direct tutorial, this video explores elements and techniques of experimental film-making, starting with what experimental film-making is. Through lots of examples this makes clear how these elements work and how they might expand one’s personal creativity in video and film.
Since earning a BFA in Film at Emerson College (2009), Eileen Roscina has continued primarily creating in the medium of experimental film. This often involves the use of lyric or visual metaphor to tell a story on film.
In the summers of 2019 and 2020 Eileen conceived and implemented a free experimental film camp for female and non-binary youth at RedLine Contemporary Art Center in Denver, instructing the students to keep a dream journal – drawing from images in dreams or the subconscious to later be made into film or visual artwork.
