“More than two years in the making, Museo de las Americas, in collaboration with the Mexican Cultural Center, is pleased to announce a powerful, deeply moving and timely exhibit opening October 29th, 2020. Testigos / Witnesses is a portrait-based exhibition born out of a friendship that developed between the artist Gaal D. Cohen and artisan Genaro Fuentes Trego of the indigenous Otomi community of San Pablito Pahuatlán, Mexico. It is a study of life, death and the universal mysteries that connect us all.“
Documenting the human life cycle, divided into 11 different phases, Cohen, in collaboration with Trego, present split portraits printed on traditional Amate paper. This paper naturally presents itself throughout the image, reflecting the interconnected idea that the printed portraits represent. A collaboration and look into a community through its many faces, Cohen’s work will be on view at Museo de las Americas until March 20th, 2021.
