Boulder Ballet presents the historic ballet Les Sylphides, with Mikhail Fokine’s original choreography refreshed by Artistic Director Ben Needham-Wood. Though inspired by the Scottish tale “La Sylphide,” this ballet is one of the first to forgo a distinct narrative and instead focus on the ambiance and simple beauty of classical dance. Presented alongside Les Sylphides will be three pas de deux: Christopher Wheeldon’s “Carousel,” Val Caniparoli’s “Double Stop,” and Michael Smuin’s “Bouquet.” These four works by world-renowned, classically-based choreographers have shaped how we view ballet today. These pieces go from uplifting and lighthearted, to fast and technical, showcasing our dancers’ emotional range and impressive stamina.
