What is Ekphrasis? Writing Workshop
October 13 @ 5:00 pm
$9.20 – $11.50What is ekphrasis? While the word may sound unfamiliar, it describes one of the oldest and most generative writing practices: responding to visual art through language.
Fireside Ink Writers Workshop is thrilled to partner with Off the Page at the Dairy Arts Center for an immersive writing workshop that explores the art of ekphrasis. Together, we’ll examine compelling examples from poetry and fiction, discuss how writers translate visual experiences into language, and discover the many ways artwork can spark stories, memories, and creative insight.
Surrounded by the artworks of Off the Page in the McMahon Gallery, participants will engage in guided writing exercises inspired by the exhibition. Through close observation, interpretation, and imaginative response, you’ll experiment with new approaches to describing, questioning, and reimagining what you see.
Whether you’re a seasoned writer or simply curious about creative expression, this workshop offers an opportunity to deepen your relationship with both art and language. You’ll leave with fresh writing, a greater understanding of ekphrasis, and new ways of experiencing visual art through the written word.
No prior writing experience is necessary. Writers of all genres and experience levels are welcome.
