November 8 – December 1, 2024
Opening Night Reception: November 8th, 5 – 8 PM
Bubbling Up is a Healing Art Installation for Community Unity on the Gordon Gamm Wall in the lobby of the Dairy Arts Center.
Bubbling Up is a transformative installation that invites the community to engage in meaningful conversations around racism and xenophobia. Created by artist Grace Gee in response to rising incidents of violence, the exhibit provides a platform for BIPOC voices to share personal stories of discrimination on handcrafted bubble forms, fostering empathy, reflection, and support from participants and viewers.
This installation elevates marginalized voices, creating an inclusive space for connection and understanding. It offers a unique opportunity for non-BIPOC visitors to explore these narratives with open hearts, gaining insight into the lived experiences of racism and discrimination. Visitors can express empathy or allyship on response cards, bridging gaps in understanding and sparking meaningful dialogue that extends beyond the exhibit space.
The installation features bubble-like forms adorned with personal stories, accompanied by Polaroid photos of bubble story contributors and written responses from visitors. As the exhibit evolves, new contributions will be added throughout its run and in future installations, ensuring that it remains a dynamic reflection of community experiences and insights. This process of continual engagement allows participants to see their voices reflected and integrated into the larger narrative, emphasizing the importance of every contribution.
Bubbling Up fosters empathy, connection, and transformative conversations, reminding us that discrimination has no place in our shared narrative. By sharing stories and responses, participants engage in an act of healing, solidarity, and change. Add your voice—leave a bubble story or response and become part of a growing community rooted in empathy, unity, and transformation.
Meet artist Grace Gee at the Opening Night Reception on Friday, November 8th from 5-8pm or at the Creative Nations Market on Saturday, November 9 th from 12-3 pm. She’ll have bubbles and response cards available to write on to contribute to the installation.
