About The Exhibition
Laura Brenton’s art journey is a captivating reflection of her evolution from dancer to painter, encapsulated in her exhibition, “Full Circle.” As a founding member of “The Space for Dance” at the Gordon Gamm Theater, she honed her craft under the guidance of local dance legends Barbara Demaree and Larry Boyette. Now, she returns to the Locals Only Gallery at The Dairy, showcasing her transformation into a visual artist.
Initially rooted in landscape painting, Laura gradually moved to a more fluid, expressive style, as an abstract painter. This evolution parallels her transition from ballet to modern dance.
Infusing her dance background into her painting process, Laura describes her work as a dance in itself. “Day-to-day life slips away as I scribble, painting with my fingers, and dancing the paint around with brushes and palette knives—always following the movement.” Her approach evokes a sense of spontaneity and rhythm, drawing inspiration from improvisations with musicians and dancers.
Through her art, Laura explores themes of beauty, mystery, and connection. “Full Circle” not only celebrates her journey but also invites others to reflect on their own paths of transformation and creativity.
About The Artist
Laura Brenton is an abstract painter whose work is deeply influenced by her background in dance, capturing movement and emotion on canvas. Her work often incorporates a combination of spontaneous mark-making with layered textures and vibrant colors. While abstract in nature, each painting aims to transcend the boundaries of traditional representation, offering space for introspection and a visceral, intuitive experience.
