Molière’s 1664 masterpiece asks: what if a creepy, self-righteous fraud moved into your house, manipulated your family, and nearly stole everything you owned? Tartuffe is that guy. Dripping with false piety and slick justifications, he cons a wealthy fool into near-ruin while everyone else watches in horror. It’s a blistering roast of religious hypocrisy that got banned twice. Apparently, some people recognized themselves.
