We’re back! Boulder’s Story Slam gears up to host their first in-person Slam since Feb 2020
June 29th, 2021: On July 18, Boulder’s Story Slam will bring storytellers and audiences together in the same room for their first in-person event since the pandemic began.
When lockdown happened in March, Boulder’s Story Slam and The Dairy Arts Center quickly pivoted the in person slams to the virtual stage, and hosted 6 virtual slams over the last 15 months. These events have kept people across the country connected through these socially distant pandemic times by telling stories.
This “We’re back!” slam will take the stage on July 18th, 2021 at 7pm MT.
The structure is simple: There’s a theme for the night. (This month’s theme is CAMP). Audience members put their name in a hat to tell a story. If their name gets picked, they come to the stage to tell a true, 5 minute story based on the theme — all without notes. At the end of the night the audience votes on the best story.
“The competition happens in good fun,” says Johanna Walker, founder and host of Boulder’s Story Slam. “There’s a winner, but It’s not about winning. People come to hear a great night of stories. The competition does raise the stakes a bit. We call it the olympiad of storytelling, where people are invited to bring their best selves and their best stories to the stage.”
In partnership with The Dairy Arts Center, Boulder’s Story Slam is hosted and produced by Johanna Walker, public speaking coach and lover of all things story. At the “We’re back!” slam, Johanna will be joined on the stage by co-host, Macy Matarazzo, a love and relationship coach who’s spent many years on stage as an improviser and theater artist.
BOULDER’S STORY SLAM will take place on July 18th at 7pm MT at the Grace Gamm Theater. Doors open at 6:45pm MT. Show starts at 7pm MT. Tickets are available now at: https://thedairy.org/story-slam-2/
