Sonic Biography – Nathan Hall

Age Group: Middle-school and up
Materials: For this tutorial you will want to have a computer with some sort of audio recording and editing software. There are some free versions of software available, but this demonstration uses GarageBand on a mac.

Without getting too specific in features and advanced digital recording techniques, this tutorial demonstrates how to build a short audio collage as a brief biography. Sounds are recorded directly into the project, as well as explored in free online audio archives, and then assembled in a fun and easy to follow instructional video

Hailed as a “seriously talented composer” by the Denver Post, Nathan Hall is a former Fulbright Fellow to Iceland and holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts from CU Boulder. Nathan uses music as an artistic medium to explore a variety of fields including science, nature, the fine arts, and history. Nathan has taught in both music composition and performance media at CU Boulder and is current Adjunct faculty in Composition at the University of Denver.
