Marking the Space: Steven Tassin

September 13 – November 11, 2025
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 13 | 5:00 – 8:00 PM

Artist: Steven Tassin
Location: Caruso Gallery

Marking the Space is a solo exhibition of paintings by Boulder-based artist Steven Tassin, presenting a dynamic investigation of space, movement, context, and tension through minimalist abstraction. From a bird’s-eye view, Tassin maps interactions between ideas and forces on textured, layered surfaces—revealing compositions that are at once deliberate and unpredictable.

Working with a range of techniques, Tassin layers and sands fields of color to create nuanced textures and patinas. Through the use of grids, burned lines, and stenciled applications, he introduces structure into these abstract environments—merging precision with destruction, order with entropy. Each work holds tension between the intentional and the accidental, the mapped and the chaotic.

Created in the years following a profound personal loss and a move to Boulder, Tassin’s practice is rooted in finding clarity amidst uncertainty. His minimalist visual language becomes a tool for reflection, stability, and the search for meaning in unfamiliar terrain.

Marking the Space explores the evolving relationship between order and chaos, and the rhythms—both personal and aesthetic—that keep them in motion.
