After Ferris made skipping school look easy, Lady Bird shows us a coming-of-age story from a sharper, more complicated female perspective that we don’t always get from the genre. It’s funny, awkward, and painfully relatable, diving into identity, class, friendship, and the pressure to figure out who you are. The directorial debut of Greta Gerwig (who later made box office history with Barbie), Lady Bird it feels like the perfect March pick as we celebrate Women’s History Month.
About the film: A fiercely independent teenager tries to make her own way in the world while wanting to get out of her hometown of Sacramento, California, and to get away from her complicated mother and recently-unemployed father. (Greta Gerwig, 2017, United States, 1:34, R)
