This 1941 American screwball comedy film directed by Howard Hawks was nominated for four Oscars. It is praised for the sharp and witty dialogue, thanks to Billy Wilder, and the on-screen chemistry between Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. In the movie, a group of professors working on a new encyclopedia while living in a Manhattan mansion take in a mouthy nightclub singer who is wanted by the police to help bring down her mob boss lover.
