Curious Realms: Step into Abstraction
November 8, 2024 – January 5, 2025
Opening Night Reception: November 8th, 5 – 8 PM
Abstraction is defined as “existing in thought or idea but not having a physical or concrete existence.” Concepts like love, imagination, faith, and hope are abstract, yet they unite us through shared human experience, representing something indescribable but undeniably real. Just as love and hope are felt more than understood, abstract art provides an experience beyond comprehension.
The Curious Realms: Step into Abstraction exhibition brings together a diverse group of artists exploring the concept of abstraction through immersive installations and artworks that invite viewers to step inside the curious realms of our creative minds.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore the artistic worlds of Andrea Gordon, Johnny Draco, and Olive Moya, whose large-scale installations will transform the Dairy Arts Center’s galleries. The exhibition also features expansive artworks by Elisa Wolcott, JayCee Beyale, Natalie Thedford, Ilan Gutin & Sean Hogan, Alli Lemon, and Kaitlyn Tucek, offering unique perspectives on abstraction. Spanning a variety of mediums—from intricate ceramics and larger-than-life textiles to augmented reality—the artworks explore a variety of themes, including identity, grief, the natural world, and childlike wonder.
Don’t miss the opportunity to attend the opening night reception for a first look at the site-specific installations and new artworks, and meet the artists on November 8th, from 5 to 8 PM! Curious Realms will transform the Dairy Arts Center from the McMahon Gallery to the entry foyer, creating an expansive and immersive experience that invites you to explore your own curious realms.
