Left behind when his schoolmates leave for a class trip to the Mediterranean, a young Palestinian boy impetuously sets off on his own as his father, an undocumented laborer working in Israel, frantically tries to avert disaster. This beautifully crafted and deeply human tale of a father–son odyssey generated political controversy when it swept the 2025 Israeli Oscars, winning best picture, actor, supporting actor and screenplay. An Israeli-Palestinian collaboration filmed just before the Hamas atrocities of October 7, the tender yet provocative drama has garnered wide acclaim for its sensitive handling of the painful realities of the occupation for both Israelis and Palestinians.
