Fiddler on the Roof has captured the imagination of cultures around the world for decades with its universal theme of tradition confronting modernity. It has been a shared dream for Sarah Nowak (director) and Rabbi Marc Soloway (Tevye) to produce this show, and this feels like the right moment.
As we see a dramatic rise in antisemitism and a world filled with dehumanization, bigotry and violence, Anatevka is both a specific, particular time and space in Jewish history and also any place where people have been persecuted and driven out of their lands. The particular and the universal are captured in this story, which we hope to tell in a way that connects us to the past, present and future.
