Shared Terrain: An Evening of Dance Cinema

Co-produced by Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema, Frequent Flyers® Aeria Dance and Dairy Arts Center.

This special screening, as part of the Aerial Dance Festival 2026, will ignite the imagination and tickle the senses. Three Canadian films re-envision the boundaries of dance through cirque, contortion, body choir, and beyond – telling fables, confronting climate change, and expressing the idea that on this collective journey, our strength resides in living in harmony with the people and environments around us.

  1. Traverse. (Canada) 13min

Synopsis: “Traverse” weaves the stories of five women into a tapestry of collective experience as they journey, confronting obstacles along the way. Through this process of reflection in motion, a powerful sense of strength is ignited.

  1. Hubris. (Canada) 29 min

Synopsis: “Hubris” is an experimental docu-narrative that chronicles three individual journeys interpreted by dance and circus artists, exploring a powerful storyline about climate change. Blinded by ego, their journeys symbolize the collateral damage induced by a culture deeply rooted in individualism—serving as a metaphor for our environmental crisis and a need for a U-turn towards transformative change.

  1. Branché. Canada 16 minutes

Synopsis: Through unique, female-driven circus and movement art, Branché traverses time and lush natural landscapes of Quebec in a poetic exploration of our potential to work in harmony with nature in the face of the rising conflicts and chaos of the climate crisis. As diminishing resources and livable land drive an existential collapse, the daring three-high formations and breathtaking falls remind us that a oneness of nature and humanity is undoubtedly worth preserving.
