Andrea Garcia Vasquez — Guest Judge
Andrea Garcia Vasquez is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and arts facilitator whose work explores relationships between humans and the more-than-human world. Drawing on ecocritical theory, geology, and digital representations of nature, Garcia Vasquez works across a wide range of materials and processes including textiles, ceramics, video, photography, and installation. Their practice is rooted in experimentation, collaboration, and critical inquiry into how culture shapes our understanding of nature and ecology.
In addition to their studio practice, Garcia Vasquez is deeply committed to arts education and mentorship. From 2019–2022 they taught textile courses for high school students at the International School Leipzig, and from 2022–2024 served as faculty at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig, where they worked with foundation studies students in media art alongside Professors Eli Cortiñas and Stine Marie Jacobsen. They currently work as an art educator and mediator, facilitating artist talks, leading exhibition tours, and supporting public engagement with contemporary art.
Garcia Vasquez received a BFA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and a Diplom degree with distinction in New Media: Installation and Space from the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB). They are currently pursuing an MFA in Sculpture and Post-Studio Practice at the University of Colorado Boulder.
