About the Exhibition: Continuum
A continuum is a continuous range or series where things blend seamlessly into one another without clear dividing lines — like the shifting colors of a rainbow, where no single shade ends and another begins.
As humans, we segment existence into stages and categories, from youth to old age, life to death, as though we are separate from the cycles of nature. But nature reminds us that everything moves in loops: death nourishes new life, time is both linear and infinite, and aging is only the visible surface of a human experience that is far more fluid and expansive.
Aging and mortality are universal experiences — and yet, they often remain unspoken, wrapped in cultural taboo, discomfort, and isolation. Continuum explores how art can act as a conduit for connection, conversation, compassion, and community around these shared human truths: the fundamental knowns and unknowns of living, dying, and everything in between.
Bringing together artists of different disciplines and generations, the exhibition delves into themes of identity, memory, selfhood, sexuality, chronic illness, the body, grief and loss, personal and cultural landscapes, trauma, family histories, spirituality, and the unseen. Ultimately, Continuum is about love — love that crosses time, generations, and boundaries both real and imagined.
Special Project: Continuum Intergenerational Arts Workshop
Guided by filmmaker and educator Erahm Christopher, this special project—part of the Continuum exhibition—was a one-day workshop held in October 2025. The initiative paired 5 senior artists with 5 student artists for a day of connection and collaborative creation.
Through conversation, shared storytelling, and making art together on canvas, participants explored the richness of intergenerational dialogue and the enduring power of creative community. The resulting collaborative artworks will be on view in the Dairy Arts Center lobby on the MacMillan Gallery wall.
