SUMMARY:CenterStage Theatre Company: Alice By Heart | July 3-12
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nCenterStage is delighted to be returning to the Dairy Arts Center again for our 2026 summer mainstage production\, which will be presented in the 117-seat Grace Gamm Theatre at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder. From the Tony® and Grammy® award-winning creators of Spring Awakening\, Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik\, and co-written by Jessie Nelson (Waitress)\, Alice by Heart is a touching musical inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. \nIn the rubble of the London Blitz of World War II\, Alice Spencer’s budding teen life is turned upside down\, and she and her dear friend Alfred are forced to take shelter in an underground tube station. When the ailing Alfred is quarantined\, Alice encourages him to escape with her into their cherished book and journey down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. As they travel through the tale\, Alice by Heart explores the poignancy of first love\, coming to terms with loss\, and finding the courage to move forward. This musical encourages us all to celebrate the transformational power of the imagination\, even in the harshest of times.

SUMMARY:The Firehouse Art Center presents Slay the Runway Designing Safe Spaces for LGBTQIA+ Youth
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nSlay the Runway is a Firehouse Art Center Fashion Design program offered at no cost to LGBTQIA+ youth and Youth allies to support self-expression. Our goal is to be a safe space for teens to explore their own true style in a Gender Expansive and supportive community. \nWith cohorts in Longmont and Boulder\, instructors start with simple projects that improve student sewing and design skills. As confidence builds\, students are challenged to develop their own self-identity as they create an outfit for the showcase. At the fashion show\, students unveil something they’ve created in their style and voice while surrounded by a community sharing their life experiences. In addition to garment construction and design\, participants will work with make-up artists and choreographers to refine their debuts. While there are fashion camps and sewing classes in the area\, no other local offerings address the issue of safe spaces for gender-expansive youth with this depth of creativity\, and it is the only program that is no cost to participants. \nSlay the Runway’s goal is to create an affirming and accessible space where creativity\, expression\, and positive self-image are celebrated. \nThis program is made possible by SCFD\, the City of Longmont\, OASOS\, CU Boulder\, your donations\, and the never ending enthusiasm and passion of the Slay Team!

SUMMARY:13 Fires | June 24 - 26
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nA powerful new community theater production\, 13 Fires\, will bring the story of one of America’s great Black cultural districts to the stage in Boulder this season in celebration of Juneteenth. The play tells the story of Indiana Avenue in Indianapolis—once a thriving Black neighborhood filled with jazz clubs\, Black-owned businesses and the pioneering entrepreneur Madam C. J. Walker\, and legendary performers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. \nThen the neighborhood was almost completely wiped out. \n13 Fires explores how Indiana Avenue was dismantled during the expansion of Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis\, when property acquisitions\, eminent domain threats\, redlining\, and rising taxes forced families out of the homes and community they had built. Through intimate storytelling and memories of the Avenue’s golden era\, the play confronts the human cost of development and displacement. \nWhile the story unfolds in Indianapolis\, the production speaks directly to ongoing conversations about housing\, belonging\, and community change in Boulder and across Colorado. \nPresented during the Juneteenth season\, 13 Fires is a moving reflection on culture\, displacement\, and the enduring spirit of a people determined to keep their stories alive.

SUMMARY:Glowing Goose Productions presents Fiddler on the Roof | Jan. 15-25
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nFiddler on the Roof has captured the imagination of cultures around the world for decades with its universal theme of tradition confronting modernity. It has been a shared dream for Sarah Nowak (director) and Rabbi Marc Soloway (Tevye) to produce this show\, and this feels like the right moment. \nAs we see a dramatic rise in antisemitism and a world filled with dehumanization\, bigotry and violence\, Anatevka is both a specific\, particular time and space in Jewish history and also any place where people have been persecuted and driven out of their lands. The particular and the universal are captured in this story\, which we hope to tell in a way that connects us to the past\, present and future. \nThis musical is presented by Glowing Goose Productions in partnership with Congregation Bonai Shalom\, Congregation Nevei Kodesh\, and the Boulder JCC.

SUMMARY:The Little Things That Run the World | Jan 21-25
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 21-25 \nInsects were the first animals to evolve flight nearly 440 million years ago\, and they survived all five of the known mass extinctions since then. They have also been called the “glue of life” on Earth; they literally hold ecosystems together. But\, there is evidence that the pace of decline among insects in parts of the world today is fast approaching the levels of previous catastrophes. \nWhat does this mean for the rest of life on Earth\, including humans? What is causing this extinction crisis? What can be done to reverse the trend? Our new release The Little Things That Run the World introduces viewers to a diverse group of scientists\, nature lovers\, gardeners\, farmers\, and general bug enthusiasts in exploring the importance of flying insects amid rapid declines in their numbers. The film documents the mysteries of the declines alongside creative and heroic human efforts to change the course of evolutionary history. (Doug Hawes-Davis\, 2025\, USA\, 1:45\, NR)

SUMMARY:LEMON SPONGE CAKE CONTEMPORARY BALLET ITS REAL LOVE
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nRobert Sher-Machherndl | A Life in Dance \nAn inspiring choreographer conversation with internationally recognized dancemaker Robert Sher-Machherndl\, founder of Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Ballet. He reflects upon an illustrious career from Principal Dancer with Bavarian State Ballet\, Dutch National Ballet\, and Netherlands Dance Theater\, to Artistic Director Assistant at Scapino Ballet Rotterdam\, Salzburg Ballet\, and Boulder’s Lemon Sponge Cake 26-year dance journey. Indulge in a journey told through informal conversation\, demonstration\, and audience discussion. Video and imagery are to be part of this event. \nInterviewing Robert about his life in dance will be Daniel Gesmer\, former Boulder Daily Camera dance critic and founder of the globally-distributed skateboard brand Seismic Skate Systems. Dan’s writings on dance have been published in The New York Times\, The Los Angeles Times\, museum exhibition catalogs\, and numerous arts magazines and journals. He was the Editor of The Legacy of Warren Bolster: Master of Skateboard Photography (Concrete Wave Editions\, 2004). \n“Funny\, dark and provocative\, ‘Trust’ was a highlight of the program.”\nJennifer Dunning: The New York Times \n“Sher-Machherndl’s movement style\, reminiscent of William Forsythe\, seems to deliberately accentuate his length and angularity\, which becomes striking in combination with his clear center and precise technique.”\nDaniel Gesmer: Dance Enthusiast \n“I had figured was the work of a Forsythe disciple\, like maybe Helen Pickett\, who loves to ricochet between deconstructed épaulement and the ballet vocabulary itself. Wrong again. It was made by Robert Sher-Machherndl …How did I feel? Like I discovered a new program and a new choreographer.”\nWendy Perron: wendyperron.com \nwww.lemonspongecake.org

SUMMARY:Boulder Jewish Film Festival 2025 | Swedishkayt: Yidlife Crisis in Stockholm
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nReception | 5 pm | Dairy Arts Lobby \nDid you know that Yiddish is an official language in Sweden? In this entertaining and eye-opening Yiddish-inflected escapade\, a popular Canadian comedy duo travel to Sweden to perform. Much to their surprise\, they unearth an incredibly rich mother lode of Jewish culture. The writers and stars Eli Batalion and Jamie Elman are the wildly idiosyncratic creators of the irreverent tribute to Yiddish language\, culture and comedic tradition called “Yidlife Crisis.” In their critically acclaimed web series\, launched in 2014\, they play best friends and adversaries Chaimie and Leizer\, who tackle life\, love\, and lactose intolerance. In this foray into feature length film\, the pair’s playful shtick serves them well as they unexpectedly encounter a community steeped in Yiddishkeit. \nJoin us for our talk back with Katarina Schare. Born in Sweden in a tiny Jewish community\, Katarina has lived in Boulder since 2009 and opened Hävenly Baked Goods in 2019\, selling gluten-free versions of Swedish bread recipes to more than 70 restaurants.

SUMMARY:BETC: The Thin Place | Oct. 3-26
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nCan we communicate with the dead if we try hard enough? Hilda thinks she can\, and she’s befriended Linda\, an eccentric but persuasive medium to transport her to “the thin place\,” the fragile boundary between the living and the dead. \nIs Linda a con artist preying on the grief and suffering of the living\, or is she bestowing the gift of believing upon her willing subjects? \nLucas Hnath’s brilliant play transforms the theater into an intimate seance\, putting all of us who meet there into a very spooky state of mind. \nA New York Times Critics’ Pick\, The Thin Place won rave reviews when it was first produced in 2019.

SUMMARY:Miss Manhattan: A New Musical
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMISS MANHATTAN is a new musical inspired by the true story of Audrey Munson\, America’s “first supermodel\,” whose often-nude statues adorn the New York City skyline. Allegedly cursed as a child\, Audrey’s meteoric rise to fame meant brushing elbows with Rockefellers\, Whitneys\, and Astors\, but her abrupt fall was punctuated by scandal and murder. \nWhy has Audrey been largely forgotten\, despite her image enduring around the world? In modern day\, precocious but awkward 8th grader Claire seeks to learn more about Audrey and what it means to be “beautiful.” \nTheir stories come together with a compelling score by Graham and Kristina Fuller (off-Broadway’s “That Parenting Musical\,” f/k/a “In the Trenches”)\, and a book by the Fullers and Stephanie Ronco. The star-studded cast includes Anne Terze-Schwarz\, Megan Van De Hey\, Sophia Dotson\, Vidushi Goyal\, Scott Rathbun\, Katja Podsiadly\, Elton Tanega\, Graham and Kristina Fuller (the composers)\, and more. \nThe producers of Miss Manhattan believe theater should be accessible to everyone. If the cost of tickets would prevent you from attending this production\, please email us at 19kproductions@gmail.com
