DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJoin Boulder-based writer\, musician\, and contemplative artist Ahnara for a unique evening of ambient music\, spoken readings\, meditation\, and personal reflection\, surrounded by beautiful artworks in the McMahon Gallery. \nThe guided gathering will begin at 5:30 PM and conclude at 6:30 PM. Guests are invited to arrive anytime after 5:00 PM to explore the exhibition and mingle before the program begins\, and are welcome to stay afterward to continue conversations and enjoy the gallery. \nDrawing from her original writings\, The Scrolls of Becoming\, Ahnara will guide participants through a series of contemplative experiences designed to encourage stillness\, creativity\, and deeper connection. Throughout the gathering\, guests will listen to live readings and ambient soundscapes\, engage in guided reflection\, and have opportunities for personal writing inspired by the words and music shared. \nNo writing experience is necessary. Participants are welcome to write\, reflect quietly\, or simply listen and take in the experience. This year\, the crypt doors have closed behind us. \nWe emerge centuries earlier\, into the candlelit decadence of Rococo France — where gilded mirrors conceal darker reflections\, masked aristocrats gather beneath chandeliers\, and the theatre doors open after midnight. Welcome to the Théâtre des Vampires\, where you are never quite sure who is performing and who is prey. \nFor one night only\, surrender yourself to an evening of dark opulence and electric indulgence: \n– Dance to death in the ballroom with DJ sets where sultry techno meets pop mayhem. \n– Encounter immersive performances\, living statues\, and illustrous dancers as the vampire elite gather for a dark ritual masquerade. \n– Sharpen your fangs with vampire cinema from the Dairy’s Friday Night Weird film series\, screening until the witching hour. \n– Satiate your bloodlust with one complimentary signature Blood Cocktail included with every ticket. \nWhat else awaits inside the Masquerade will remain a secret until the doors open. \nCome dressed to distress — the more extravagant\, the better. SUMMARY:The Human Animal Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Nov 13 – Jan 31 | Opening Reception: Nov 13\, 5 – 8 \nThis exhibition explores how conceptual artists use imagery of animals\, creatures\, and “the other” to reflect on human nature and the breadth of human experience. Through large-scale installations and sweeping conceptual works\, the exhibition examines the symbolic power of the nonhuman as a mirror through which social\, political\, and psychological realities are revealed. \nFocusing on the figure of the animal—and the idea of the “human as other”—the exhibition interrogates themes of aggression\, dominance\, fear\, and control\, questioning the often false or ironic divide drawn between humanity and the natural world. What we project onto animals and imagined creatures frequently exposes our own instincts\, anxieties\, and contradictions\, revealing how closely intertwined human behavior is with the forces we claim to stand apart from. \nServing as a launching point for dialogue around American legacy\, the exhibition opens space for conversation on politics\, history\, and contemporary cultural and social issues.
