SUMMARY:Mimesis Documentary Festival: Opening Night: To Use a Mountain
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nSix rural communities are marked as candidates for an unthinkable fate: their land\, a burial ground for 77\,000 tons of nuclear waste. Against the impassive logic of government analysis and archives\, a people’s history of resistance and stewardship emerges through a visceral journey across the landscapes\, ecologies\, and personal histories of the candidate sites. \nThis screening will be followed by a conversation with Casey Carter in-person. \nDoors open at 6 PM with a catered reception (included with the cost of admission). \n\n\n\n\nTo Use a Mountain\n\n\nPhysics\, geology\, and democracy collide across the expansive American interior\, in a series of vignettes from six candidate sites for a sacrificial nuclear dumping ground.

A former associate of the Hell’s Angels\, he sailed into the Sea of Cortez in the 1980s on a boat named Erotica. But while Terry’s friends have great memories of partying with him at sea\, his legacy goes beyond mere popularity. His time on the water transformed Terry\, who devoted his life to the conservation of manta rays after bonding with a giant manta he named “Willy Wow.” Over 19 years off the coast of San Benedicto Island\, Terry and Willy Wow developed an extraordinary relationship that changed our understanding of mantas forever. \nNow in his eighties\, Terry goes on the adventure of a lifetime in The Last Dive\, setting sail with his friends and a documentary crew in hopes of fulfilling his “dying wish” to swim with Willy Wow one more time. Director Cody Sheehy takes viewers along on their journey\, using Terry’s story as a window into the developing science behind manta rays’ extraordinary intelligence\, as well as the urgent need to protect these “gentle giants” and their stunning natural habitat. \nDirected by Cody Sheehy | Runtime: 88 mins

SUMMARY:Boulder Environmental Nature Outdoors Film Festival 2026: Burn\, Scar
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nFilmmaker Hillary Bachelder and Colorado Fire Suppression Professionals will join us for a discussion\nPrescribed fire– the practice of setting small burns to clear ecosystems of overgrowth– is a critical tool for climate resiliency and forest health. But in 2022\, a burn set by the U.S. Forest Service in the mountains of northern New Mexico escaped its firelines and spiraled out of control to become the largest wildfire in the state’s history. Weaving together both sides of the story –  the locals impacted by the fire and struggling to rebuild\, alongside the Forest Service’s efforts to resume stewardship of the land following their tragic misstep – “burn\, scar” is a personal and nuanced story of resilience\, resistance\, and our enduring connection to the land and each other. \nDirected by: Hillary Bachelder | Length: 90 mins

For the past nearly three decades the river’s poet laureate and literal “eyes on the river\,” Captain John\, has been at the forefront of each of those fights\, taking on industrial and human pollution\, suffering the losses and celebrating victories. \nWhile he has had successes on the Hudson\, committing a life to protecting a river is a never- ending fight. Today he is one of more than 300 “keepers” around the globe\, looking out for their respective rivers. \nDirected by Jon Bowermaster \nRuntime: 80 minutes \n

SUMMARY:Set the Table: Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJoin us for an evening of conversation inside Set the Table: The Art of Nourishment\, a multi-gallery exhibition exploring the table as a site of connection\, culture\, and exchange. \nThis artist talk brings together participating artists for an intimate discussion on the ideas\, materials\, and processes behind their work. From food as memory and ritual to questions of ecology\, labor\, and community\, the conversation unpacks how each artist approaches nourishment in its many forms—cultural\, emotional\, ecological\, and creative. \nSet within the exhibition itself\, the talk invites audiences to engage directly with the artworks and the artists who made them\, offering deeper insight into the stories\, research\, and lived experiences that shape the work on view. \nFollowing the discussion\, guests are encouraged to stay\, explore the galleries\, and continue the conversation. \nAbout the Exhibition\nSet the Table: The Art of Nourishment spans all of the Dairy Arts Center’s gallery spaces\, examining the table as both a physical and symbolic space—where food\, art\, and community intersect. Through installation\, photography\, sculpture\, and interdisciplinary practices\, the exhibition considers how shared meals carry histories\, shape identities\, and reflect our relationships to land\, labor\, and one another.

SUMMARY:Boulder Eats At The Dairy - Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:This event has been canceled. Previously purchased tickets to Boulder Eats at The Dairy are being refunded as soon as possible. We encourage you to join us for Set the Table: Immersive Dinner & Art Retreat on July 22. Click here for full details>> \nBoulder Eats at the Dairy: Panel Discussion & Communal Supper \nPresented in connection with the Set the Table exhibit at the Dairy Arts Center\, Boulder Eats at the Dairy is a special evening that brings the exhibition’s themes to life—exploring how food\, culture\, and community converge at the table. \nIn collaboration with the Museum of Boulder’s exhibition Boulder Eats and Community Table Kitchen—the social enterprise of Boulder Bridge House—the event highlights Boulder’s rich food heritage and the cultural and ecological systems shaping how we share and experience food today. \nThe evening begins with a panel discussion moderated by acclaimed food writer and radio host John Lehndorff\, featuring local restaurateurs and culinary professionals. Together\, they will reflect on Boulder’s evolving food landscape and the ways food is a site for rich artistry and creativity on and off the table. \nFollowing the conversation\, guests will gather for a communal dining experience featuring three chef-curated tasting stations by Boulder Bridge House. Each station—Comfort\, Migration\, and Celebration—offers a lens into how food across Boulder and the Front Range connects us to memory\, movement\, and belonging. \nMore than a meal\, the evening uplifts the work of Boulder Bridge House\, whose culinary training program provides vital job skills\, daily meals\, and pathways out of homelessness. The chefs and servers participating in the event are part of this initiative\, grounding the experience in both exceptional food and meaningful social impact. \nAbout Community Table Kitchen:\nCommunity Table Kitchen (CTK) is a Boulder-based social enterprise catering and food production program of Bridge House. We provide high-quality\, seasonal food for events while offering paid job training and employment for individuals working to rebuild their lives after experiencing homelessness. Through our catering\, café\, and food production programs\, we combine thoughtful\, from-scratch cooking with meaningful workforce development\, using food as a tool to build community and create pathways to long-term stability. \nAbout Boulder Eats! exhibit at Museum of Boulder:\nBoulder Eats! is an exhibition at the Museum of Boulder focusing on food traditions along the Front Range\, with a special emphasis on our community’s restaurants\, farms\, and kitchens. Over 300 objects from the Museum’s historic collection featuring kitchens\, health food businesses\, orchards\, schools and restaurants will be on view. Programs including cooking classes\, demonstrations\, nutrition workshops and more will also be available to our visitors making this a can’t miss experience. \nUsing objects from the Museum’s permanent collection\, the exhibit tells Boulder’s story through the foods we eat. Exploring our farms and gardens\, the evolving technology in our kitchens\, the impact Boulder’s natural food businesses have had on our own and our nation’s health\, as well as the cultural stories reflected at our dinner tables both at home and in local restaurants come together to tell and even shape our community’s history. Boulder Eats! SUMMARY:BVSD Annual High School Art Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:On View April 2 – May 3 | Opening Reception: April 2 \, 5 – 7 PM \nFor the BVSD Annual High School Art Exhibition\, this year’s theme is “The Third Eye\,” in line with this year’s PEEK fundraiser theme. The prompt was shared with BVSD educators in September\, giving teachers and students an entire academic year to explore the idea in the classroom. The theme has served as a launching point for sustained educational inquiry. The exhibition opens with a public reception and\, in partnership with Boulder Arts Week\, will feature a student-led artist talk for the first time. \nThe Third Eye invites student artists to explore the connections between art\, spirituality\, and the unseen. Centered on the idea that art can be more than representation\, the theme positions creative practice as a portal into liminal spaces\, forgotten rituals\, and deeper ways of knowing. \nAcross art history\, artists have turned to spiritual and mystical traditions as sources of transformation—from Hildegard of Bingen’s illuminated visions and Georgiana Houghton’s trance drawings to the abstract languages of Hilma af Klint and Wassily Kandinsky. In this lineage\, students ask: How does art help us access the unknown? How can ritual\, myth\, or meditation be part of creative practice? What does it mean to “see” beyond the visible?

SUMMARY:Black Futures in Art Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:On View Feb 19 – March 29 | Opening Reception: Feb 20\, 5 – 8 PMFourth Annual Exhibition at the Dairy Arts Center | Curated by Adderly Grant-Lord \nNow in its fourth year at the Dairy Arts Center\, Black Futures in Art is a sweeping\, annual exhibition presented in celebration of Black History Month and in ongoing recognition of Black artistry and excellence year-round. Curated by Adderly Grant-Lord\, the exhibition brings together Black artists from Colorado and across the United States\, highlighting a broad range of practices\, voices\, and visions shaping contemporary art today. \nThis year’s exhibition is grounded in the theme “The excellence beneath our feet lives in our bones\,” a poetic meditation on legacy\, inheritance\, and resilience. The exhibition looks to what has been buried\, erased\, or overlooked in both past and present\, while honoring the enduring knowledge\, creativity\, and excellence that persist across generations. Through visual art\, the exhibition considers how memory\, land\, body\, and ancestry carry stories forward\, and how art becomes a conduit for community\, reflection\, and dialogue around the past\, present\, and future. \nBlack Futures in Art creates space for both celebration and critical engagement\, inviting audiences to witness how artists navigate history\, imagine possibility\, and cultivate collective understanding. The exhibition is accompanied by a robust slate of public programming\, including film screenings\, artist talks\, a lecture series\, hands-on workshops — and a special live musical performance at the Opening Reception. \n\n Opening Reception Musicians\nThe evening will feature a dynamic ensemble of Colorado-based musicians whose practices bridge classical training\, jazz lineage\, and contemporary experimentation: \nJoe Tabano (Trumpet) – A Denver-born and raised trumpet player\, Joe’s roots in jazz are shaped by mentorship connected to the lineage of Ron Miles. Having toured throughout the United States and Europe\, his sound blends traditional jazz sensibility with expansive improvisation and expressive depth. \nLiv Stephfano (Cello) – A Horizon High School student and accomplished young cellist\, Liv was selected for the district-wide Honors Concert and earned 2nd Chair among 15 top performers — a testament to her dedication and musical excellence. \nJosias Gilmore (Electric Guitar) – An accomplished guitarist with several years of performance experience\, Josias has played iconic stages including Red Rocks Amphitheatre\, Fillmore Auditorium\, and Paramount Theatre\, bringing versatility and stage presence to every performance. \nPhillip Cutler (Violin) – A Fort Collins–based violinist with over 13 years of training\, Phillip bridges classical discipline with contemporary exploration. Having participated in Colorado All-State Orchestras and studied under Mark Woods of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra\, his work blends orchestral precision with modern energy\, drawing from classical\, fiddle\, jazz\, and electronic influences. \nTogether\, these musicians create a layered sonic environment that echoes the exhibition’s themes of inheritance\, evolution\, and living legacy.
