Through that recognition\, we begin to build meaning\, connection\, and understanding. \nJoin Fireside Ink Writers Workshop for a unique writing workshop inspired by Off the Page at the Dairy Arts Center. Using artworks from the exhibition as a starting point\, participants will explore personal narratives through guided writing prompts\, close looking\, and conversation. This workshop invites writers of all levels and genres to discover how visual art can open a doorway into their own stories while deepening our sense of shared community. \nSurrounded by the artworks of Off the Page in the McMahon Gallery\, attendees will reflect on the images that resonate most deeply with them and use those responses as a springboard for creative exploration. Through a series of guided exercises\, participants will uncover personal connections\, memories\, and stories inspired by the work on view. \nYou’ll leave with fresh writing\, new tools for creative reflection\, and a deeper appreciation for the ways art can help us better understand ourselves and one another. \nNo prior writing experience is necessary. All genres and experience levels are welcome. \nAbout the Instructor \nBrenda Kahn is a Boulder-based artist celebrated for lyric-driven music that blends personal narratives with broader social commentary. She gained acclaim in the 1990s with her distinctive punk-folk sound\, earning a recording contract with Columbia Records and critical praise for her album Epiphany in Brooklyn. She has toured with musical greats including Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley and is the author of Ode to Chores\, a humorous collection of verse about motherhood. \nHer 2024 single\, Alright OK\, is available on YouTube and Spotify. After the War\, in the face of KKK activity\, he organized civil unity leagues in California by mentoring Mexican Americans and African Americans to build their voting power to challenge segregation in schools\, which led to a successful integration of local school boards across California’s Citrus Belt.  He worked from the understanding that while protests can draw attention to create sustainable change\, persistence and organization are required to build power and give people a voice in the decisions that shape their living and working conditions. American Agitators\, tells a story of how today\, collective action can combat racism\, bigotry\, and injustice and help move our nation towards a true democracy. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n \n“No Contract” is a one-woman show exploring a mother’s request not to endure dementia. It asks: “is there a way to have dementia without tragedy\, when ‘to be or not to be’ is always the question?” \nCreated by Kirsten Wilson in honor of her mother and loved ones everywhere\, experiencing or caring for people with dementia. \n“No Contract” is a one-woman show by Kirsten Wilson about her mother’s dementia –Marie Wilson\, founder of ‘Take Our Daughters to Work Day\,’ LGBTQ+ leader\, author\, and equity-based feminist. \nThe dramatic ‘contract’ at the heart of this two-act performance is her mother’s request to be killed if she loses her mind. The production blends autobiographical storytelling\, “Hamlet\,” “King Lear\,” karaoke\, and audience engagement to explore the complex tension between choosing life and death—the “to be and not to be” of assisted suicide after a dementia diagnosis. \nIn “No Contract\,” Wilson uses humor & heart to prevent both the performance & her mother’s life from becoming a Lear-like tragedy. As Wilson says in Act One\, “My mother’s life was always supposed to be a romantic comedy\, a 1950’s musical\, except with lesbians dancing in the street. I will not let it turn toward tragedy.” \n*Note Wednesday\, 9/30/26 is a show for immunocompromised people. This is an opportunity to gather in community to use the performance to launch your own reflections and writings on the impact of dementia and fears associated with aging. The morning will begin with a performance of Act I\, followed by personal reflections\, writing and discussion on dementia. After a shared lunch within small reflections groups\, a performance of Act II\, with a facilitated dialogue\, writing exercises and reflections. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nSept 16-20 \nInspired by Fred Ross Sr\, one of the most influential grassroots organizers of the 20th century\, AMERICAN AGITATORS is a documentary about the importance of patience and deep listening in organizing. Beginning in the 1930s\, Ross organized Dust Bowl refugees and during WWII he helped Japanese Americans find jobs and housing after release from the internment camps. After the War\, in the face of KKK activity\, he organized civil unity leagues in California by mentoring Mexican Americans and African Americans to build their voting power to challenge segregation in schools\, which led to a successful integration of local school boards across California’s Citrus Belt.  He worked from the understanding that while protests can draw attention to create sustainable change\, persistence and organization are required to build power and give people a voice in the decisions that shape their living and working conditions. American Agitators\, tells a story of how today\, collective action can combat racism\, bigotry\, and injustice and help move our nation towards a true democracy. It asks: “is there a way to have dementia without tragedy\, when ‘to be or not to be’ is always the question?” \nCreated by Kirsten Wilson in honor of her mother and loved ones everywhere\, experiencing or caring for people with dementia. \n“No Contract” is a one-woman show by Kirsten Wilson about her mother’s dementia –Marie Wilson\, founder of ‘Take Our Daughters to Work Day\,’ LGBTQ+ leader\, author\, and equity-based feminist. \nThe dramatic ‘contract’ at the heart of this two-act performance is her mother’s request to be killed if she loses her mind. The production blends autobiographical storytelling\, “Hamlet\,” “King Lear\,” karaoke\, and audience engagement to explore the complex tension between choosing life and death—the “to be and not to be” of assisted suicide after a dementia diagnosis. \nIn “No Contract\,” Wilson uses humor & heart to prevent both the performance & her mother’s life from becoming a Lear-like tragedy. As Wilson says in Act One\, “My mother’s life was always supposed to be a romantic comedy\, a 1950’s musical\, except with lesbians dancing in the street. I will not let it turn toward tragedy.” \n*Note Wednesday\, 9/30/26 is a show for immunocompromised people. This show provides the following: Audience capacity is at 30% to provide space for two empty seats between audience members. KN95 masks must be worn by performers and audience members. Air filtration used. 6 feet of space between performers and front row. 6pm performance. Take a day-long deep dive into the impact of caring for family members with dementia or negotiating your own fears of losing your mind with celebrated facilitator and artist Kirsten Wilson. This is an opportunity to gather in community to use the performance to launch your own reflections and writings on the impact of dementia and fears associated with aging. The morning will begin with a performance of Act I\, followed by personal reflections\, writing and discussion on dementia. After a shared lunch within small reflections groups\, a performance of Act II\, with a facilitated dialogue\, writing exercises and reflections. No skill as a writer necessary\, just willingness to courageously explore caregiving\, our mortality\, and dementia in community. (Lunch included in workshop fee).
