SUMMARY:Mimesis Documentary Festival: Opening Night The Shards
DESCRIPTION:TICKETSThe Shards\n\n\nIn Spring 2022 Masha prepares to leave Russia — her homeland that has changed. It turns into a chain of unexpected farewells: her mom dies of cancer\, her lover flees army conscription\, everything including her own old self is falling apart. Her way of coping with the grief is to fixate everything with her camera. Her anger guides her to an inner emigration to the local underground scene\, which became an escape for young Russians. This kaleidoscope of shards chronicles not only the spirit of the time\, but the director’s personality crumbling against the backdrop of global turmoil.

SUMMARY:Mimesis Documentary Festival: Blown in Full
DESCRIPTION:TICKETSLet us think through other eyes as they gaze upon this world so that we may unsettle reality and liberate doubt. We are looking for a version of the truth – in soft shadows\, from the corner of a private room\, under harsh fluorescents\, through careful microscopes\, or in memories made visible on film. Here\, we imagine the perceptions of another to escape the confines of the body\, acknowledging its limits while refusing the forces that constrain free will.

SUMMARY:Mimesis Documentary Festival: Contracts + Complicity
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nThis performative screening will be followed by a conversation with festival artists. \n\n\n\n\nSunset Seduction\n\n\nSunset Seduction stars a liberal philanthropist yearning for his next fling with radical politics. Made as the Palestine solidarity movement escalated in 2024\, the work unfolds in essayistic fragments considering ideas of freedom\, violence\, and the seductive capture of revolutionary ideology. This is an evolving project that places a film alongside site-specific contracts and discussions that materialize the particular responsibilities of cultural workers in the global north.

SUMMARY:Mimesis Documentary Festival: Midwestern Passages
DESCRIPTION:TICKETSAcross the flyway\, cigar-shaped swifts cover the sky in aerial maneuvers\, drawn from afar by instinctual desires. They find night rest in the vertical plane above a seasonal migration of young humans. Their remote wish for new horizons is fledged\, morphed\, and curtailed as the promise of summer slides into reality. The doldrums of everyday neon illuminate the labor that drives the American dream.

SUMMARY:Mimesis Documentary Festival: In Excess
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nAn examination of labor\, capital\, and displacement in modern America through the lens of one city’s trash — in sewers and streets\, waterways and workplaces. A gritty dive into the inner workings of a city’s infrastructure that embraces different formats\, weaving newly digitized archival material together with surveillance footage and contemporary vignettes of people at work\, communities in flux\, and waste in motion. Observational\, off-beat\, and open-ended\, the film finds harmonies and dissonance in patterns of creation\, consumption\, and renewal.

SUMMARY:Colorado Brazil Fest
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nColorado Brazil Fest offers an exciting evening of live music and dance that celebrates the depth and energy of Brazilian culture. Get swept into the spirit of Brazil with Gisele Duquè\, a bold new voice in Brazilian music\, delivering a night of samba\, soul\, and swing with raw energy and refined artistry. Dance performances by Samba Colorado and Escola de Samba Denver bring colorful energy to the stage. The high energy continues with Dandha da Hora—a masterful singer and dancer from Salvador\, Bahia and longtime member of the legendary Afro-Brazilian group Ilê Aiyê—joined by Ginga band and the powerful percussion of Bateria Alegria — bringing the festival to a joyful and unforgettable close. \nGisele Duquè started her singing career at the age of 12\, performing at restaurants\, private parties\, and weddings. She spent this time hoping and eager for something bigger. When this hope came to fruition\, it took her from her home in Brazil to tour through China\, Hong Kong and Macau. The culmination of this tour saw her living at sea\, performing for Celebrity Cruise Lines and bringing her music to over 13 different countries. Gisele’s all-embracing style has been influenced by the multitude of styles and languages she’s been exposed to\, ranging from bossa nova and samba to soul and rock n’ roll. Singing in Portuguese\, English\, Spanish and sometimes even Chinese\, Gisele is an eclectic songstress whose versatility and charm can carry her from an intimate show with a small crowd to a fervent carnival. \nDandha Da Hora: Born and raised in Salvador\, Bahia\, Dandha Da Hora has been a member of Ilê Aiyê\, one of Brazil’s most important musical and cultural institutions\, since she was 6 years old. A master dancer\, as well as vocalist and percussionist\, Dandha invokes the incredible spirit of Ilê Aiyê and Salvador\, Bahia\, each time she steps onstage. As a lead dancer with Ilê Aiyê\, Dandha toured internationally and has shared the stage with many of Brazil’s most renowned artists such as Caetano Veloso\, Gilberto Gil and Daniela Mercury. In addition to performing with Ilê Aiyê and SambaDá\, Dandha has performed with Casa Samba (New Orleans\, LA)\, SambaDendê and Bateria Alegria (Boulder\, CO)\, Banda Remelexo and Bahia Soul (Bay Area\, CA). \nMembers of Ginga: Cultivated in Boulder\, Colorado and composed of some of the best jazz\, classical and salsa musicians on the Front Range\, Ginga is the powerhouse Brazilian band in Colorado. The members of Ginga accompanying Dandha are Greg LaLiberte (flute\, saxophones\, percussion\, vocals)\, Bill Kopper (acoustic 6 & 7 string guitars\, electric guitar\, vocals)\, Bill McCrossen (Bass)\, Raoul Rossiter (drums\, percussion\, vocals)\, Carl Dixon (percussion\, vocals)\, and Vincent Gonzalez (percussion\, vocals). \nBateria Alegria is the primary performing ensemble of the Boulder Samba School\, composed of 20-30 percussionists and led by Music Director Carl Dixon. The ensemble plays percussion-based styles of music from Rio de Janeiro (samba batucada) and Salvador (samba reggae). The music incorporates a mixture of African\, European\, and indigenous influences and traditions. These styles of music are traditionally played during the carnival parades throughout Brazil and can be heard in Brazilian concert stages\, dance clubs\, neighborhoods\, and soccer matches. \nEscola de Samba Denver with Bella Diva: Escola de Samba Denver is the newest international addition to the original Escola de Samba Sydney in Australia\, directed by renowned performing artist and instructor Sashya Jay. Escola de Samba Denver carries on Escola de Samba Sydney’s dedication to providing progressive Brazilian dance education that is aligned with the latest and evolving dance techniques and artistic styles in Brazil\, with authenticity and respect for the roots of the culture at its core. \nSamba Colorado: Since its founding in 2013\, Samba Colorado is devoted to bringing together people from all walks of life in an artistic\, educational\, and positive community by sharing the joy and beauty of Brazilian culture and dance. They offer classes\, workshops\, dance residencies as well as energetic and exciting performances for both community and private events.

SUMMARY:BETC: Cry it Out
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJessie is a frazzled corporate lawyer in a cutthroat Manhattan firm. Lina dropped out of her community college and has a life circumscribed by her working class roots on Long Island. The two newly minted moms share one thing in common — they are both feeling isolated and trapped at home with their new babies. \nIn the yard between their houses — as far as their baby monitors will reach — they bond over sleep deprivation\, unreliable childcare and “having it all.” \nMolly Smith Metzler’s Cry It Out is a smart\, candid comedy about parenthood and class in America today — and the hard choices all mothers make.
