SUMMARY:Spacewoman | Apr 29-May 2
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nApr 29-May 2 \nAstronaut Eileen Collins was the first woman to pilot and command an American spacecraft. Born on the other side of the tracks in upstate New York\, she smashed many glass ceilings in the US Air Force and at NASA in her career\, culminating in four increasingly dramatic and dangerous space shuttle missions. With an incredible set of archival materials\, intimate interviews\, and a moving score by Marcelo Zarvos\, Hannah Berryman’s nail-biting film shares the emotional journey experienced by Eileen’s family\, and explores what level of risk is acceptable in human endeavour. SUMMARY:BETC: Mary Jane | Preview Night - April 30
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nRegional Premiere \nA single mom’s life is turned upside down by her child’s chronic illness. Abandoned by her husband\, she faces reality with a sunny determination that borders on denial. \nA story of a mother’s unbounded love and the makeshift circle of women who support her\, Mary Jane is a beautiful testament to endurance and human kindness in the face of tragedy. \nThe New York Times calls Mary Jane “the most profound and harrowing of all Amy Herzog plays…a character study and everywoman story.”

SUMMARY:The Upstart Crow presents Tartuffe by Moliere | April 30 - May 17
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nThey cloak their spite in fair religion’s name\,\nTheir private spleen and malice being made\nTo seem a high and virtuous crusade. \nMolière’s 1664 masterpiece asks: what if a creepy\, self-righteous fraud moved into your house\, manipulated your family\, and nearly stole everything you owned? Tartuffe is that guy. Dripping with false piety and slick justifications\, he cons a wealthy fool into near-ruin while everyone else watches in horror. It’s a blistering roast of religious hypocrisy that got banned twice. Apparently\, some people recognized themselves. \nThurs 4/30 – 7pm\, Name Your Price Night (no ticketing)\n Sunday 5/3. TALKBACK: Stay in the Carsen Theater after the show for an informal conversation with the cast and crew.\nMon 5/4 – 7pm\, Industry Night fundraiser (no ticketing)\nThurs 5/7 – 7pm\, Name Your Price Night (no ticketing)\nThurs 5/14 – 7pm\, Name Your Price Night (no ticketing)

SUMMARY:Local Theater Company Local Listens: Queer Lineage play readings
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJoin us for staged readings of two new short plays inspired by the stories of LGBTQ+ Coloradans across generations. This event marks the culmination of our season-long project\, Local Listens: Queer Lineage. Tickets are pay-what-you-will. All are welcome! \nThroughout the season\, Local Theater Company brought together LGBTQ+ community members\, ages 19 to 92\, in facilitated story circles. These stories inspired the two 45-minute plays written by Steven J. Burge\, Julie Rada and Miriam Suzanne. \nFollowing the performances\, we invite you to stay for a facilitated conversation about the plays — an opportunity to reflect\, respond\, and continue the dialogue together. \nLearn more about the project and hear selected stories on our website. \nLocal Listens: Queer Lineage is supported in part by the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation\, the Alex Wilson Fund and Cassandra Simon. \nABOUT THE PROJECT\nLocal Listens is a community-inspired new play initiative that focuses on a single social issue for one year. In an increasingly-digital world\, Local Listens intentionally gathers community members in a room\, face-to-face\, for important\, informative\, and illuminating conversations. These story circles\, held at the beginning of every season\, inspire short plays that are presented at the conclusion of the season. In order to enrich the experience for you\, our audience\, throughout the season we showcase a traveling portrait gallery featuring story circle participants. Each portrait is accompanied with an audio recording of a story the subject shared. Listen to these stories and discover the humans behind these complex issues. A resource guide is provided\, offering unbiased context. \nResearch shows that people understand\, remember\, and act on complex social issues more effectively when they are conveyed through lived experience rather than abstract data. Stories increase empathy\, reduce resistance to difficult topics\, and foster shared understanding across differences making them a powerful tool for civic dialogue and social change. \nLocal Listens seeks to build bridges across the chasm of community divides.

SUMMARY:Late Shift
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMay 13-17 \nWith a warm smile and positive attitude\, Floria (Leonie Benesch\, The Teachers’ Lounge) arrives at the surgical ward of the Swiss hospital where she works as a nurse on the overnight shift. With one colleague out sick and no replacement on deck\, just two nurses and a nervous trainee will have to cover more than two dozen patients. The doctors to whom the nurses are supposed to defer are nowhere to be found. Floria juggles endless tasks: administering medication\, updating charts\, soothing patients\, answering phones\, and managing complaints. Surrounded by fluorescent lights\, the steady beeping of monitors\, and echoing footsteps\, Floria struggles to fight off exhaustion and maintain her professional demeanor. Every second counts\, and every interruption could mean the difference between life and death. (Petra Volpe\, 2025\, Switzerland\, 1:32\, NR) \n\n

SUMMARY:Steal This Story\, Please!
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMay 20-24 \nUndeterred by armed soldiers\, evasive politicians\, and riot police\, journalist Amy Goodman has reported some of the most consequential stories of our time. Steal This Story\, Please! is a gripping portrait of the trailblazer whose unwavering commitment to truth-telling spans three decades of turbulent history. From the frontlines of global conflicts to the organized chaos of her daily news show Democracy Now!\, Goodman broadcasts stories and voices routinely silenced by commercial media. \nOscar-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin (Trouble the Water\, The Janes) take us behind the scenes with the warm\, wisecracking granddaughter of an Orthodox rabbi — raised in a tradition of asking hard questions – as she navigates a news landscape reshaped by technology\, corporate consolidation\, and political assaults on the press – and on truth itself. Urgent\, provocative and unexpectedly funny\, Steal This Story\, Please! is both a call to action and a celebration of resistance\, posing the question: what happens to democracy when the press surrenders to power? SUMMARY:Amrum
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMay 20-24 \nIt is the Spring of 1945 on the German island of Amrum\, a remote outpost in the North Sea. The front is far away\, and 12-year-old Nanning (newcomer Jasper Billerbeck) spends his days working the nearby farm and his nights fishing\, helping his mother to feed their family. Despite the hardship\, life on the beautiful\, windswept isle seems idyllic. When their anti-fascist neighbor Tessa (Diane Kruger) mentions to Nanning that the war will soon be over\, the boy – too young to understand the political implications – is pleased to imagine that his father\, a Nazi officer\, might soon be coming home. But his mother Hille (Laura Tonke) is a true believer\, and word of Germany’s imminent defeat sends her into decline. One day from her sick bed\, she wishes for white bread\, butter and honey\, near impossible luxuries on Amrum which Nanning innocently tries to find for her. But as he sets off on his quest\, he learns from his neighbors that the enemy is far closer than he imagined. (Fatih Akin\, 2025\, Germany\, 1:33\, NR) \n\n

SUMMARY:Blue Heron
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMay 27-31 \nIn the late 1990s\, eight-year-old Sasha and her family relocate to a new home on Vancouver Island\, but their fresh start is interrupted by increasingly dangerous behavior from the eldest son\, Jeremy. At wit’s end\, their parents are presented with a shattering choice. Award-winning director Sophy Romvari’s feature debut is a lyrical and profound testament to the things we carry with us\, masterfully chronicling the haze of a languid summer and the hyaline clarity of the moments that defined it. SUMMARY:Space Cowboy
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMay 27-31 \nJoe Jennings\, an innovator in the world of skydiving\, has spent decades capturing breathtaking aerial moments with his camera for extreme sports competitions\, Super Bowl commercials\, and Hollywood blockbusters. Driven by a passion for “camera flying” in his youth\, Joe cultivated a deep friendship with fellow skydiver Rob Harris\, partnering to become one of the most influential skysurfing teams in history. Flying at the top of their game\, Joe’s world was shattered when tragedy struck\, leaving him to navigate the skies alone. Never giving up\, he continued to push the boundaries of aerial cinematography and skydiving\, finding solace in the clouds while grappling with profound grief and depression. Now\, at 62\, this pioneering skydiver is taking on a new challenge\, elevating his art with a daring “flying car” stunt. Directors Marah Strauch (SUNSHINE SUPERMAN) and Bryce Leavitt delve into Joe’s extraordinary 40-year career in the sky. Through stunning archival footage\, revealing interviews\, and dramatic verité\, they uncover a deeper emotional journey as Joe navigates loss\, depression\, and the challenge of balancing a life in the sky with the realities on the ground.
