SUMMARY:My Sunshine | Dec 18-21
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nOne winter on the Japanese island of Hokkaido\, a young boy named Takuya has resigned himself to the fact that he’s the worst player on his ice hockey team. While practicing\, he becomes transfixed by the figure skaters who share the ice rink\, particularly Sakura\, a rising star from Tokyo. Her coach\, Arakawa\, takes an interest in Takuya\, seeing himself in the young boy. He pairs the two up and trains them as a competitive ice-dancing duo. Although tentative with each other at first\, the kids eventually grow closer and form a deep bond with their supportive coach. But as the winter continues\, unspoken feelings begin to surface and the harmony the trio once knew begins to falter. “A gentle\, unassuming film about the pain and misdirection that can arise from young love\,” (RogerEbert.com)\, Hiroshi Okuyama’s sophomore feature MY SUNSHINE is a heartwarming coming-of-age drama buoyed by its picturesque cinematography and beautiful score. SUMMARY:CANCELED COmpass REsonance: Merry Mozart with Mina
DESCRIPTION:CANCELED \nMERRY MOZART featuring Mina Gajić and Nurit Pacht with COmpass REsonance \nMozart captured the exuberance and joy of life better than any other orchestral composer\, weaving layers of delight into his music—like an exquisite musical confection celebrating life’s wonder\, splendor\, laughter\, and pure happiness. This captivating program invites you to immerse yourself in the sheer beauty and playful spirit of Mozart’s works\, designed to uplift and charm the soul. \nBalkan pianist Mina Gajić brings her distinctive artistry to Mozart’s deeply heartfelt Piano Concerto No. 11 (K. 413)\, collaborating with the acclaimed COmpass REsonance (CORE) and esteemed guest violinist and leader\, Nurit Pacht. This sparkling\, virtuosic\, and delightfully engaging program highlights beloved Mozart compositions cherished by string musicians\, including two renowned Divertimentos that embody the elegance and clarity of the Classical Style. Under Nurit’s expert guidance\, known for her dynamic performances and nuanced understanding of 18th-century music\, CORE’s virtuoso string orchestra skillfully brings Mozart’s sublime harmonic beauty vividly to life. Mina’s extensive expertise with the harpsichord and historical pianos ensures her interpretations brim with agile precision and playful exuberance. \nAdding festive joy to the occasion\, and perfectly timed just days before Christmas\, CORE will premiere newly commissioned arrangements of beloved holiday carols\, reimagined with a delightful Mozartian twist. \nCOmpass REsonance (CORE) is a conductorless ensemble uniting acclaimed musicians from across the U.S. alongside Colorado’s finest talents. In each gesture — whether long sequences of harmony\, punchy statements\, delicate lifts\, or phrases that come to a halt at the edge of an emotional cliff – Carrettín and Gajić share the same sense of propulsion\, giving their playing a lean power and an extra glimmer of energy…daring virtuosity\, tossed off with glee.” -Early Music America \n“Pacht’s sultry\, bittersweet playing of the blues movement confirmed that hers is a special artistry.” -London Times \n“Nurit Pacht’s sound is as assertive as her temperament is charismatic. She grabs the music with an extraordinary intensity which gives each note its proper expressive weight.” -Le Temps (Switzerland)

SUMMARY:Songs and Stories for the Longest Night
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nAs the longest nights of the year approach\, gather in warmth and community for an unforgettable evening of music and storytelling. Songs and Stories for the Longest Night is more than a concert—it’s an experience to connect\, reflect\, and celebrate the beauty of light in the darkness. \nArtists for December 21 \nLiz Barnez is a captivating performing songwriter whose roots run deep in the vibrant culture of New Orleans\, Louisiana. Now based in Fort Collins\, Colorado\, Liz masterfully blends her southern swampy influences with the majestic essence of the Rockies\, creating a unique and eclectic sound that resonates with audiences across genres. Liz’s contributions to the music community have not gone unnoticed. She was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame as a member of the aptly named “Mother Folkers\,” a title that reflects both her talent and the camaraderie of her peers. Recognized for her artistic excellence\, she has been voted “Best Singer-Songwriter Female” and honored with a prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Fort Collins Musicians Association (FoCoMA) for her dedication to performance and community service.\nAngel Corsi is a BIPOC americana/soul artist fighting for somber people seeking hope and belonging through unfiltered storytelling and evocative songwriting. The Colorado-based songwriter’s personal and succinct writing style takes the listeners through contemplative vignettes that navigate a range of topics from politics to love and self healing. All presented through his sardonic humor & hot blooded performances.\nDanny Shafer has based his life\, living and reputation on making sure the song comes first. Through relentless touring and constant songwriting for 25 years he has earned himself a position as a lifelong modern troubadour. Growing up behind the wheel has had its ups and downs but has also brought Danny Shafer closer to the people and topics that make songs come alive. The Denver Post – “Shafer can stand solid next to folks like John Prine and Greg Brown — it almost feels like murder to dissect. It’s great music of the people\, by the people\, and for the people. Nuff said.”\nOlivia “Liv” Roumel is an evocative and soulful singer\, songwriter\, guitarist and keys player. Hailing from Ann Arbor Michigan\, but based in Denver since 2016\, her music blends soulful vocals with jazz-inspired textures and nature-infused imagery. Her songs are both intimate and expansive\, rooted in raw storytelling and transformative musical expression. Much of her music is written and influenced by introspection in nature\, so she calls her style of music “nature-soul”.

SUMMARY:LEMON SPONGE CAKE CONTEMPORARY BALLET ITS REAL LOVE
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nRobert Sher-Machherndl | A Life in Dance \nAn inspiring choreographer conversation with internationally recognized dancemaker Robert Sher-Machherndl\, founder of Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Ballet. He reflects upon an illustrious career from Principal Dancer with Bavarian State Ballet\, Dutch National Ballet\, and Netherlands Dance Theater\, to Artistic Director Assistant at Scapino Ballet Rotterdam\, Salzburg Ballet\, and Boulder’s Lemon Sponge Cake 26-year dance journey. Indulge in a journey told through informal conversation\, demonstration\, and audience discussion. Video and imagery are to be part of this event. \nInterviewing Robert about his life in dance will be Daniel Gesmer\, former Boulder Daily Camera dance critic and founder of the globally-distributed skateboard brand Seismic Skate Systems. Dan’s writings on dance have been published in The New York Times\, The Los Angeles Times\, museum exhibition catalogs\, and numerous arts magazines and journals. He was the Editor of The Legacy of Warren Bolster: Master of Skateboard Photography (Concrete Wave Editions\, 2004). \n“Funny\, dark and provocative\, ‘Trust’ was a highlight of the program.”\nJennifer Dunning: The New York Times \n“Sher-Machherndl’s movement style\, reminiscent of William Forsythe\, seems to deliberately accentuate his length and angularity\, which becomes striking in combination with his clear center and precise technique.”\nDaniel Gesmer: Dance Enthusiast \n“I had figured was the work of a Forsythe disciple\, like maybe Helen Pickett\, who loves to ricochet between deconstructed épaulement and the ballet vocabulary itself. Wrong again. It was made by Robert Sher-Machherndl …How did I feel? Like I discovered a new program and a new choreographer.”\nWendy Perron: wendyperron.com \nwww.lemonspongecake.org

SUMMARY:Timestamp | Jan 7-11
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 7-11 \nKeeping schools open in Ukraine is an attempt to recreate at least some of the normal life they had before the war — until February 24\, 2022 (and in some regions even earlier\, in 2014). Without interviews\, narration and reenactments\, TIMESTAMP provides an insight into how the war is affecting the daily lives of students and teachers. The film has a mosaic-like structure: it explores how a school functions in-person and online in these terrible times\, both on and off the frontline\, how day-to-day life is intertwined with constant danger. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nThe Dairy Arts Center is proud to present a special event as part of the Continuum exhibition programming\, in partnership with Boulder Death Cafe. \nAt Death Cafe\, we gather to eat cake\, drink tea\, and talk openly about death. SUMMARY:YAGÓDY | January 14 & 15
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nCo-presented by Sunflower Seeds Ukraine \nUkrainian sirens YAGÓDY\, kick off their 2026 US tour with two nights at the Dairy Arts Center. Celebrated for their “primal energy” (Chicago Reader\, March 2025) and hypnotic vocal harmonies\, this quartet blends ethno-ritual performances with feminine resilience for a “dynamic and contemporary” (Minneapolis Star Tribune) experience. \nSince making their North American debut in 2025\, YAGÓDY has continued to evolve their craft\, recently releasing a haunting new single\, “Koni\,” and video from director and cinematographer Olia Klymuk. \nIn this original song inspired by her grandmother\, YAGÓDY founder Zoriana Dybovska sings of “the youth that passes and the love that lives in memories.” The song draws on the image of the willow tree\, a central motif in Ukrainian folklore that acts as an emblem of tenderness\, grief\, and endurance. \nThe three original vocalists of YAGÓDY—Zoriana Dybovska\, Vasylyna Voloshyn\, Tetiana Voitiv\, and accordionist Nadiia Parashchuk—continue their mission to preserve\, reinterpret\, and breathe new life into Ukrainian Ukrainian folk songs and traditions from around the world. YAGÓDY’s repertoire will also include music from their self-titled debut album as well as original singles “Tsunamia\,” which placed in Ukraine’s national Eurovision selection\, and the defiant anthem “BRamaYa.” They will be joined on tour by drummer Teimyraz Gogitidze.

SUMMARY:Glowing Goose Productions presents Fiddler on the Roof | Jan. 15-25
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nFiddler on the Roof has captured the imagination of cultures around the world for decades with its universal theme of tradition confronting modernity. It has been a shared dream for Sarah Nowak (director) and Rabbi Marc Soloway (Tevye) to produce this show\, and this feels like the right moment. \nAs we see a dramatic rise in antisemitism and a world filled with dehumanization\, bigotry and violence\, Anatevka is both a specific\, particular time and space in Jewish history and also any place where people have been persecuted and driven out of their lands. The particular and the universal are captured in this story\, which we hope to tell in a way that connects us to the past\, present and future. \nThis musical is presented by Glowing Goose Productions in partnership with Congregation Bonai Shalom\, Congregation Nevei Kodesh\, and the Boulder JCC.

SUMMARY:Obex | Jan 16
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 16 \nIn pre-internet 1987\, Conor and his dog Sandy live a life of seclusion\, lost in the slow-rendering graphics of early Macs and televisions aglow with late night horror movie marathons. But when he begins playing OBEX\, a new and mysterious\, state-of-the-art computer game\, he finds himself trapped in a low-tech\, but high-stakes analog hellscape as the line between reality and game blurs. Audacious and uncanny\, writer-director Albert Birney’s OBEX is a delightfully skewed lo-fi fantasy. Shot in striking black and white\, this surreally nostalgic nightmare revisits the dawn of personal computing to reflect on the loneliness of our always-online present day.
