SUMMARY:Steal This Story\, Please! | May 20-24
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nUndeterred by armed soldiers\, evasive politicians\, and riot police\, journalist Amy Goodman has reported some of the most consequential stories of our time. Steal This Story\, Please! is a gripping portrait of the trailblazer whose unwavering commitment to truth-telling spans three decades of turbulent history. From the frontlines of global conflicts to the organized chaos of her daily news show Democracy Now!\, Goodman broadcasts stories and voices routinely silenced by commercial media. \nOscar-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin (Trouble the Water\, The Janes) take us behind the scenes with the warm\, wisecracking granddaughter of an Orthodox rabbi — raised in a tradition of asking hard questions – as she navigates a news landscape reshaped by technology\, corporate consolidation\, and political assaults on the press – and on truth itself. Urgent\, provocative and unexpectedly funny\, Steal This Story\, Please! is both a call to action and a celebration of resistance\, posing the question: what happens to democracy when the press surrenders to power? (Carl Deal & Tia Lessin\, 2025\, USA\, 1:41\, NR)

SUMMARY:Amrum | May 20-24
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nIt is the Spring of 1945 on the German island of Amrum\, a remote outpost in the North Sea. The front is far away\, and 12-year-old Nanning (newcomer Jasper Billerbeck) spends his days working the nearby farm and his nights fishing\, helping his mother to feed their family. Despite the hardship\, life on the beautiful\, windswept isle seems idyllic. When their anti-fascist neighbor Tessa (Diane Kruger) mentions to Nanning that the war will soon be over\, the boy – too young to understand the political implications – is pleased to imagine that his father\, a Nazi officer\, might soon be coming home. But his mother Hille (Laura Tonke) is a true believer\, and word of Germany’s imminent defeat sends her into decline. One day from her sick bed\, she wishes for white bread\, butter and honey\, near impossible luxuries on Amrum which Nanning innocently tries to find for her. But as he sets off on his quest\, he learns from his neighbors that the enemy is far closer than he imagined. (Fatih Akin\, 2025\, Germany\, 1:33\, NR) \n\n

SUMMARY:BETC: Mary Jane | May 1-24
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nRegional Premiere \nA single mom’s life is turned upside down by her child’s chronic illness. Abandoned by her husband\, she faces reality with a sunny determination that borders on denial. \nA story of a mother’s unbounded love and the makeshift circle of women who support her\, Mary Jane is a beautiful testament to endurance and human kindness in the face of tragedy. \nThe New York Times calls Mary Jane “the most profound and harrowing of all Amy Herzog plays…a character study and everywoman story.”

SUMMARY:Space Cowboy | May 27-31
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJoe Jennings\, an innovator in the world of skydiving\, has spent decades capturing breathtaking aerial moments with his camera for extreme sports competitions\, Super Bowl commercials\, and Hollywood blockbusters. Driven by a passion for “camera flying” in his youth\, Joe cultivated a deep friendship with fellow skydiver Rob Harris\, partnering to become one of the most influential skysurfing teams in history. Flying at the top of their game\, Joe’s world was shattered when tragedy struck\, leaving him to navigate the skies alone. Never giving up\, he continued to push the boundaries of aerial cinematography and skydiving\, finding solace in the clouds while grappling with profound grief and depression. Now\, at 62\, this pioneering skydiver is taking on a new challenge\, elevating his art with a daring “flying car” stunt. Directors Marah Strauch (SUNSHINE SUPERMAN) and Bryce Leavitt delve into Joe’s extraordinary 40-year career in the sky. Through stunning archival footage\, revealing interviews\, and dramatic verité\, they uncover a deeper emotional journey as Joe navigates loss\, depression\, and the challenge of balancing a life in the sky with the realities on the ground. SUMMARY:Science on Screen®: Like Water for Chocolate Food\, Emotion\, and the Science of Nourishment
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n  \nBefore the screening of Like Water for Chocolate\, Carmen Pacheco will explore how food carries emotion\, memory\, culture\, and identity while also serving as a fascinating lens into science and engineering. Through stories and examples from Mexican cuisine\, chocolate making\, flavor development\, heat transfer\, emulsions\, and sensory science\, the talk will examine how nourishment extends far beyond nutrition and connects deeply to human experience. \n\nThe film shows us that cooking is not only chemistry and heat transfer. SUMMARY:Friday Night Weird: Fiume O Morte!
DESCRIPTION:Button text\nJune 5 \nCroatia’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. \nBezinović’s inventive hybrid film is a defiantly punk direct-action history lesson\, deadly serious yet hilariously surreal. In 1919\, the Italian poet\, dandy\, and glorifier of war Gabriele D’Annunzio occupied the city of Fiume.  \nThe citizens of Fiume (now Croatia’s Rijeka) retell and reinterpret the 16-month occupation of their city\, regarded as one of the most bizarre military sieges of all time. Incensed that the city — long part of the now-dissolved Austro-Hungarian Empire\, would be ceded to the newly formed Kingdom of the Serbs\, Croats and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia) despite its large Italian population — D’Annunzio gathered a few thousand troops and invaded\, intending to annex the city to Italy.  \nItaly wanted no part of this folly\, and after 15 months\, D’Annunzio and his forces retreated. A century later\, Bezinović recruits hundreds of Rijeka locals to recreate scenes from the siege on the streets and in the buildings where events occurred. SUMMARY:What Does That Nature Say to You | June 10-14
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJune 10-14 \nDonghwa is a fledgling poet in his thirties. He rejects material aspirations and seeks to lead a life dedicated to truth and beauty. On a lazy afternoon\, he drives his girlfriend\, Junhee\, back to her parents’ home outside Seoul. In the driveway\, they run into her father\, who is strangely interested in Donghwa’s dinged up old car. He takes it for a spin around the block\, then invites Donghwa to stay and meet the family: him\, his wife\, who also writes poetry\, and Junhee’s reclusive sister\, who practices the gayageum\, a traditional string instrument. They end up wiling away the day together\, visiting a temple by the river\, climbing the hill near the house\, watching the sunset\, and\, sure enough\, imbibing drinks. Egged on by Junhee’s dad\, Donghwa gets progressively more drunk as the day advances. Finally\, he makes a fool of himself at dinner. Then everything begins to unravel for the poet: his relationship\, his art\, his revolutionary ideals. (Hong Sang-soo\, 2025\, South Korea\, 1:48\, NR)

SUMMARY:Friday Night Weird: Exit 8
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJune 12 \nA man trapped in an endless sterile subway passageway sets out to find Exit 8. The rules of his quest are simple: do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you discover an anomaly\, turn back immediately. If you don’t\, carry on. Then leave from Exit 8. But even a single oversight will send him back to the beginning. Will he ever reach his goal and escape this infinite corridor? (Genki Kawamura\, 2025\, Japan\, 1:35\, NR) \n

SUMMARY:Mad Bill to Pay | June 17-21
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJune 17-21 \nIn a tight-knit Dominican American community in The Bronx\, Rico (Juan Collado) is hustling his way through the summer\, selling bootleg ”nutcracker” cocktails out of a beach cooler and chasing girls without a care in the world. But when his teenage girlfriend\, Destiny (Destiny Checo)\, begins crashing at his place with his family\, turning their small apartment into a stage for their messy\, complicated young love\, it’s only a matter of time before they’re hit with the sobering reality of growing up too fast in a city that waits for no one. \nWriter-director Joel Alfonso Vargas turns his hometown into the heartbeat of his debut feature\, teaming up with discovery talent Collado and Checo\, to deliver a raw and deeply authentic look at life in The Bronx. With humor and grit\, Vargas paints a tender portrait of the chaos and charm of urban life\, and the ups and downs of youthful abandon when things take an unexpected turn. SUMMARY:Set the Table: Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJoin us for an evening of conversation inside Set the Table: The Art of Nourishment\, a multi-gallery exhibition exploring the table as a site of connection\, culture\, and exchange. \nThis artist talk brings together participating artists for an intimate discussion on the ideas\, materials\, and processes behind their work. From food as memory and ritual to questions of ecology\, labor\, and community\, the conversation unpacks how each artist approaches nourishment in its many forms—cultural\, emotional\, ecological\, and creative. \nSet within the exhibition itself\, the talk invites audiences to engage directly with the artworks and the artists who made them\, offering deeper insight into the stories\, research\, and lived experiences that shape the work on view. \nFollowing the discussion\, guests are encouraged to stay\, explore the galleries\, and continue the conversation. \nAbout the Exhibition\nSet the Table: The Art of Nourishment spans all of the Dairy Arts Center’s gallery spaces\, examining the table as both a physical and symbolic space—where food\, art\, and community intersect. Through installation\, photography\, sculpture\, and interdisciplinary practices\, the exhibition considers how shared meals carry histories\, shape identities\, and reflect our relationships to land\, labor\, and one another.
