SUMMARY:Polyglot Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Polyglot Exhibition opening reception. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments available for purchase. \nPolyglot brings together artists from around the world working across textile\, ceramic\, and painting. Each artist works within a distinct material practice\, shaped by where they live\, how they work\, and what they choose to focus on. \nWhen you travel\, visiting a museum often becomes a way of understanding a place. Art captures atmosphere\, history\, and everyday life in a way words often cannot. Polyglot is rooted in that experience\, aiming to bring those moments of discovery closer to home. \nPresented as a focused group exhibition\, Polyglot brings together different materials\, cultures\, and approaches to making. Each practice is presented on its own terms\, creating a dialogue between artists who may never share the same language\, but whose work communicates through material and form. \nCurated by Verbunt Galerie.

SUMMARY:For The Living
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nFor centuries\, Humankind has grappled with the tension between the two extremes of our nature: Dehumanization and Empathy. Darkness and Light. From the genocide of Indigenous peoples of the western hemisphere to the horrors of the Holocaust to the genocides in Bosnia and Rwanda we realize that numbers make us numb. The more who die\, the less we care. But\, in 2019 another journey from darkness to light called “Ride for the Living” offered a way forward. Originating at the universal symbol of absolute evil (Auschwitz-Birkenau) 250 cyclists from 12 different countries came together to re-trace the WWII liberation path of a single 10-year Holocaust survivor across the Polish countryside to reach a destination symbolizing our common humanity: Krakow\, Poland. \nAlternating between the intimate story of this one Holocaust survivor and the startling similarities among individuals in all genocides\, these parallel journeys bring to life how we can grow our empathy to encompass millions. And how the American educational system has long overlooked—and in 2025 now threatens to whitewash–these stories and the insights we need to prevent future genocides. Inciting the urgent conversation: When will we stop building monuments for the Dead and get busy re-humanizing the Living? When will we finally say NEVER AGAIN and truly mean it? SUMMARY:MycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi | Jan. 23-25
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi is a multimedia stage performance directed by choreographer Iván-Daniel Espinosa. Inspired by the underground networks of mycelium that connect the roots of thousands of plants and trees\, this performance incorporates mycology and sculpture with live electroacoustic soundscapes and Japanese Butoh dance to bring to life the fascinating world of fungi in an immersive theatrical setting. For this performance\, Espinosa and his collaborators have designed a maze-like sculpture incorporating fungal colonies with fruiting mushrooms of different species. Musical soundscapes are created in real time by hooking up the fungi to bio-sensor and bio-sonification devices that convert the mycelium’s electrical and textural activity into Live sounds. The installation is further activated by dancers performing a choreography in the style of Japanese Butoh (舞踏\, Butō) inspired by the vibrant ecosystems of fungi and their shapeshifting movement through space and time. MycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi creates a multi-sensory and mind-bending experience that demonstrates a deeply intimate relationship to nature\, where the distinctions between human and non-human worlds dissolve in slow and attentive bodily practice. \nDANCERS:\nStefan Bach\nCorin Wiggins\nKenji Hirose\nArlo Sage King \nLIVE MUSIC composed and performed by Christopher Bryant Arnett.\nSCULPTURE designed by Arlo Sage King. \nABOUT THE DIRECTOR & CHOREOGRAPHER:\nIván-Daniel Espinosa is a Latino dance choreographer that creates interdisciplinary artwork engaged with ecology\, mushrooms and fungi\, climate change\, and interspecies performance. His recent multimedia performances integrating mushroom colonies with live dance\, fungal bioacoustics and fungal bio-sonification have been presented at numerous venues nationwide such as La MaMa Experimental Theatre in New York City\, Seattle International Butoh Festival\, Seattle ARTS IN NATURE Festival\, Houston Fringe Festival\, and Roman Susan Art Foundation in Chicago. Iván-Daniel’s performances involving fungi and mushrooms are highlighted in a chapter-length discussion of his artwork that was published in a 2024 Routledge book titled Choreographing Dirt: Movement\, Performance\, and Ecology in the Anthropocene. \nAs a scholar and artist\, Iván-Daniel specializes in Butoh (舞踏\, Butō)\, an avant-garde form of dance-theater that was originated by Tatsumi Hijikata in 1960’s Tokyo. Iván-Daniel began his Butoh training in 2014 and has studied with many renowned Japanese master teachers from the lineage of Hijikata including Natsu Nakajima\, Saga Kobayashi\, Hiroko and Koichi Tamano\, Semimaru and Dai Matsuoka of SANKAI JUKU\, and Moe Yamamoto of Kanazawa Butoh-Kan. Iván-Daniel’s formative training began with Seattle Butoh pioneer Joan Laage\, who continues to serve as his foremost teacher to this day. Iván-Daniel is the co-founder of the Salish Sea Butoh Festival\, an annual dance convergence that takes place on the Olympic Peninsula to deepen the study of Japanese Butoh with artists from all over the world.\nIván-Daniel is a current PhD Candidate in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder and he also holds a Master of Arts in Performance Studies from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (NYU). Iván-Daniel’s PhD dissertation research at CU-Boulder examines the intersections of performance and fungal mycology\, focusing on the relationships between human bodies and mycelium fungi networks through the lenses of choreography and dance performance. \n** MycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi is funded in part by a Community Project Grant from the Boulder Arts Commission\, an agency of the Boulder City Council. This project is also supported by additional grant funding from the CU-Boulder Office for Public and Community-Engaged Scholarship and the Nature\, Environment\, Science & Technology (NEST) Studio for the Arts. **

SUMMARY:Glowing Goose Productions presents Fiddler on the Roof | Jan. 15-25
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nFiddler on the Roof has captured the imagination of cultures around the world for decades with its universal theme of tradition confronting modernity. It has been a shared dream for Sarah Nowak (director) and Rabbi Marc Soloway (Tevye) to produce this show\, and this feels like the right moment. \nAs we see a dramatic rise in antisemitism and a world filled with dehumanization\, bigotry and violence\, Anatevka is both a specific\, particular time and space in Jewish history and also any place where people have been persecuted and driven out of their lands. The particular and the universal are captured in this story\, which we hope to tell in a way that connects us to the past\, present and future. \nThis musical is presented by Glowing Goose Productions in partnership with Congregation Bonai Shalom\, Congregation Nevei Kodesh\, and the Boulder JCC.

SUMMARY:The Little Things That Run the World | Jan 21-25
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 21-25 \nInsects were the first animals to evolve flight nearly 440 million years ago\, and they survived all five of the known mass extinctions since then. They have also been called the “glue of life” on Earth; they literally hold ecosystems together. But\, there is evidence that the pace of decline among insects in parts of the world today is fast approaching the levels of previous catastrophes. \nWhat does this mean for the rest of life on Earth\, including humans? What is causing this extinction crisis? What can be done to reverse the trend? Our new release The Little Things That Run the World introduces viewers to a diverse group of scientists\, nature lovers\, gardeners\, farmers\, and general bug enthusiasts in exploring the importance of flying insects amid rapid declines in their numbers. The film documents the mysteries of the declines alongside creative and heroic human efforts to change the course of evolutionary history. (Doug Hawes-Davis\, 2025\, USA\, 1:45\, NR)

DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 16 \nIn pre-internet 1987\, Conor and his dog Sandy live a life of seclusion\, lost in the slow-rendering graphics of early Macs and televisions aglow with late night horror movie marathons. But when he begins playing OBEX\, a new and mysterious\, state-of-the-art computer game\, he finds himself trapped in a low-tech\, but high-stakes analog hellscape as the line between reality and game blurs. SUMMARY:YAGÓDY | January 14 & 15
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nCo-presented by Sunflower Seeds Ukraine \nUkrainian sirens YAGÓDY\, kick off their 2026 US tour with two nights at the Dairy Arts Center. Celebrated for their “primal energy” (Chicago Reader\, March 2025) and hypnotic vocal harmonies\, this quartet blends ethno-ritual performances with feminine resilience for a “dynamic and contemporary” (Minneapolis Star Tribune) experience. \nSince making their North American debut in 2025\, YAGÓDY has continued to evolve their craft\, recently releasing a haunting new single\, “Koni\,” and video from director and cinematographer Olia Klymuk. \nIn this original song inspired by her grandmother\, YAGÓDY founder Zoriana Dybovska sings of “the youth that passes and the love that lives in memories.” The song draws on the image of the willow tree\, a central motif in Ukrainian folklore that acts as an emblem of tenderness\, grief\, and endurance. \nThe three original vocalists of YAGÓDY—Zoriana Dybovska\, Vasylyna Voloshyn\, Tetiana Voitiv\, and accordionist Nadiia Parashchuk—continue their mission to preserve\, reinterpret\, and breathe new life into Ukrainian Ukrainian folk songs and traditions from around the world. YAGÓDY’s repertoire will also include music from their self-titled debut album as well as original singles “Tsunamia\,” which placed in Ukraine’s national Eurovision selection\, and the defiant anthem “BRamaYa.” They will be joined on tour by drummer Teimyraz Gogitidze.

SUMMARY:Science on Screen® Fungal Frequencies | Jan 12
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nScience on Screen®: Fungal Frequencies launches the Dairy Arts Center’s exploration of fungi as creative collaborators through movement film\, and scientific discovery. \nThis evening brings together artists\, scientists\, and short film to explore how fungi inspire new forms of artistic expression and ways of seeing. Interdisciplinary artist Iván Daniel Espinosa and mycologists Dr. Alisha Quandt and Mary Childress will offer accessible scientific insight into fungal ecology\, evolution\, and behavior — and preview of the immersive world of MycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi\, opening later this month. \nThe evening concludes with a curated selection of short films from the 2025 Fungi Film Festival\, showcasing how filmmakers around the world are translating fungi into poetic\, playful\, and provocative cinematic forms. \nScientific Lecture & Artist Talk: 6:30 PM; Film Screening: 7:30 PM \nThis event is FREE for Dairy Arts Center Members as part of the Science on Screen® series \n \nABOUT THE SPEAKERS \nIVÁN-DANIEL ESPINOSA\nIván Daniel Espinosa is a choreographer that creates artwork engaged with mycology\, mycelium fungi networks\, avant-garde dance\, climate change and interspecies performance. His recent multimedia art installations integrating mushroom colonies of diverse species with Japanese Butoh dance\, fungal bioacoustics and bio-sonification have been presented at numerous venues such as La Mama Experimental Theatre in NYC\, Seattle International Butoh Festival\, and Roman Susan Art Foundation in Chicago. Iván-Daniel’s performances involving fungi and mushrooms are highlighted in a chapter-length discussion of his work that was published in a 2024 Routledge monograph titled Choreographing Dirt: Movement\, Performance\, and Ecology in the Anthropocene. Iván-Daniel is a PhD Candidate in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder. \nOn January 23-25\, 2026\, Iván-Daniel is premiering a new fungi-themed performance at The Dairy Arts Center titled MycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi through The Dairy Arts Center’s Co-Production Program. \n  \n \nALISHA QUANDT\, PhD\nDr. Alisha Quandt is a mycologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She holds a Ph.D. from the Botany and Plant Pathology Department at Oregon State University. Dr. Quandt’s lab at CU-Boulder studies fungal evolutionary biology — especially the evolution of fungal host and ecological transitions\, fungal diversity and how fungi interact with other microorganisms. In 2024\, Dr. Quandt was awarded the Constantine J. Alexopoulos Prize for outstanding early career mycologist by the Mycological Society of America and the Young Mycologist Award for North America by the International Mycological Association. \n  \n  \nMARY CHILRDESS \nMary Childress is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado Boulder\, working in the Quandt Mycology Lab. Her research interests center on fungal diversity\, systematics\, and plant pathology. She has described three new species of Pseudogymnoascus from Antarctic soils and is currently studying fungal pathogens of Andean endemic trees for her dissertation. \n  \n \nFILM PROGRAM \nAwake: The Dark Night of the Soul (José Antonio Márquez Arroyo Venezuela\, 7:00) \nBumps on Sticks (Riitta Ikonen\, Ben Kinsley\, USA\, 3:56) \nCaverns and Coprophilia (Hamilton Pevec\, USA\, 7:32) \nDo I Know You\, Mushroom? SUMMARY:Timestamp | Jan 7-11
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 7-11 \nKeeping schools open in Ukraine is an attempt to recreate at least some of the normal life they had before the war — until February 24\, 2022 (and in some regions even earlier\, in 2014). Without interviews\, narration and reenactments\, TIMESTAMP provides an insight into how the war is affecting the daily lives of students and teachers. The film has a mosaic-like structure: it explores how a school functions in-person and online in these terrible times\, both on and off the frontline\, how day-to-day life is intertwined with constant danger.
