SUMMARY:Boulder Environmental Nature Outdoors Film Festival 2025: Earth Protectors
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \n\n\n\nWatch the trailer>\n  \nEarth Protectors addresses our need to adapt as a species to the Anthropocene: the new era in which the impact of humans overwhelms natural cycles with fires\, floods\, pollution\, super typhoons\, and a deadly virus. These challenges provide incontrovertible evidence for the necessity of systemic change. On Anne’s expeditions creating her art installations\, she meets a new generation of women and men who are working to save our planet and is inspired by their commitment and their achievements. Her narrative recounts the stories and the diversity of these young protagonists\, whom she calls “Earth Protectors” \nAnne de Carbuccia\, an environmental artist\, captures the stories of a motley crew of people who decided to dedicate themselves to the planet’s wellbeing. \nDirected by Anne de Carbuccia \nRuntime: 96 Mins \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnne de Carbuccia \n\n\n\n\nAnne de Carbuccia is an artist and filmmaker from Corsica\, France. Since 2013 she has travelled to the world’s most remote locations to artistically document endangered environments\, species and cultures. The focus of her work is to move past the human-centered era of today. Her art has been exhibited in museums and public institutions throughout Europe and the United States. \nShe is currently creating a mixed-media art series Follow the thread and Sacred Bodies\, a photography project. She is also filming a five episode documentary series\, Choose Earth.

SUMMARY:Boulder Environmental Nature Outdoors Film Festival 2025: OCEAN with David Attenborough
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nManny Almonte\, our 2025 EARTH ANGEL HONOREE \n\n\n\n\nPrior to Closing Night film\, the festival will honor Manny Almonte with the festival’s EARTH ANGEL statuette for his work in environmental advocacy and education. \nGrowing up in the bustling city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic\, Almonte sought peace and freedom during weekend\, holiday\, and summer visits to his father’s home in Bonao\, an inland town at the foothills of the Pico Duarte mountains. “I was able to experience nature beyond the beach. Usually you think of the Caribbean Sea and how beautiful the beaches are\, but when you go into the land\, you find beautiful mountains\, streams\, and wildlife—and that is something that I always looked forward to\,” said Almonte. “I didn’t experience nature intentionally; it was simply life.” \nToday\, Almonte shares that way of life with young Black and Brown men from New York City and Denver and uses it as a vehicle to help them create connections with nature\, their passions\, their inner selves and their communities through his non-profit organization Young Masterminds Initiative and its Camping to Connect outdoor mentorship program. \nManny lives in Denver\, Colorado. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOCEAN with DAVID ATTENBOROUGH\, Biologist and host \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer >\n“Ocean is by turns awe-inspiring\, informative\, deeply angering and cautiously hopeful.” – Radio Times \nOCEAN WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH takes viewers on a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival\, more full of life\, wonder\, or surprise\, than the  ocean.\nThe celebrated broadcaster and filmmaker reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs\, kelp forests and the open ocean\, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing. \nStunning\, immersive cinematography showcases the wonder of life under the seas and exposes the realities and challenges facing our ocean as never-before-seen\, from destructive fishing techniques to mass coral reef bleaching. Yet the story is one of optimism\, with Attenborough pointing to inspirational stories from around the world to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen. \nFollowing the film\, exclusively in cinemas\, A DEEPER DIVE WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH takes audiences behind the scenes with additional footage and interviews on the making of OCEAN. \nDirected by Colin Butfield\, Toby Nowlan\, Keith Scholey \nRuntime: 95 mins

SUMMARY:Caught By the Tides
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJuly 23-27 \nThe preeminent dramatist of China’s rapid 21st-century growth and social transformation\, Jia Zhangke has taken his boldest approach to narrative yet with his marvelous Caught by the Tides. Assembled from footage shot over a span of 23 years—a beguiling mix of fiction and documentary\, featuring a cascade of images taken from previous movies\, unused scenes\, and newly shot dramatic sequences—Caught by the Tides is a free-flowing work of unspoken longing\, carried along more by music than dialogue as it looms around the edges of a poignant love story. The film mostly adheres to the perspective of Qiaoqiao (Jia’s immortal muse Zhao Tao) as she wanders an increasingly unrecognizable country in search of long-lost lover Bin (Li Zhubin)\, who left their home city of Datong seeking new financial prospects. The always captivating Zhao carries the film with her delicate expressiveness\, while Jia constantly evokes cinema’s ability to capture the passage of time and the persistence of change: of people\, landscapes\, cities\, politics\, ideas.. The high energy continues with Dandha da Hora—a masterful singer and dancer from Salvador\, Bahia and longtime member of the legendary Afro-Brazilian group Ilê Aiyê—joined by Ginga band and the powerful percussion of Bateria Alegria — bringing the festival to a joyful and unforgettable close. \nGisele Duquè started her singing career at the age of 12\, performing at restaurants\, private parties\, and weddings. She spent this time hoping and eager for something bigger. When this hope came to fruition\, it took her from her home in Brazil to tour through China\, Hong Kong and Macau. The culmination of this tour saw her living at sea\, performing for Celebrity Cruise Lines and bringing her music to over 13 different countries. Gisele’s all-embracing style has been influenced by the multitude of styles and languages she’s been exposed to\, ranging from bossa nova and samba to soul and rock n’ roll. Singing in Portuguese\, English\, Spanish and sometimes even Chinese\, Gisele is an eclectic songstress whose versatility and charm can carry her from an intimate show with a small crowd to a fervent carnival. \nDandha Da Hora: Born and raised in Salvador\, Bahia\, Dandha Da Hora has been a member of Ilê Aiyê\, one of Brazil’s most important musical and cultural institutions\, since she was 6 years old. A master dancer\, as well as vocalist and percussionist\, Dandha invokes the incredible spirit of Ilê Aiyê and Salvador\, Bahia\, each time she steps onstage. As a lead dancer with Ilê Aiyê\, Dandha toured internationally and has shared the stage with many of Brazil’s most renowned artists such as Caetano Veloso\, Gilberto Gil and Daniela Mercury. In addition to performing with Ilê Aiyê and SambaDá\, Dandha has performed with Casa Samba (New Orleans\, LA)\, SambaDendê and Bateria Alegria (Boulder\, CO)\, Banda Remelexo and Bahia Soul (Bay Area\, CA). \nMembers of Ginga: Cultivated in Boulder\, Colorado and composed of some of the best jazz\, classical and salsa musicians on the Front Range\, Ginga is the powerhouse Brazilian band in Colorado. The members of Ginga accompanying Dandha are Greg LaLiberte (flute\, saxophones\, percussion\, vocals)\, Bill Kopper (acoustic 6 & 7 string guitars\, electric guitar\, vocals)\, Bill McCrossen (Bass)\, Raoul Rossiter (drums\, percussion\, vocals)\, Carl Dixon (percussion\, vocals)\, and Vincent Gonzalez (percussion\, vocals). \nBateria Alegria is the primary performing ensemble of the Boulder Samba School\, composed of 20-30 percussionists and led by Music Director Carl Dixon. The ensemble plays percussion-based styles of music from Rio de Janeiro (samba batucada) and Salvador (samba reggae). The music incorporates a mixture of African\, European\, and indigenous influences and traditions. These styles of music are traditionally played during the carnival parades throughout Brazil and can be heard in Brazilian concert stages\, dance clubs\, neighborhoods\, and soccer matches. \nEscola de Samba Denver with Bella Diva: Escola de Samba Denver is the newest international addition to the original Escola de Samba Sydney in Australia\, directed by renowned performing artist and instructor Sashya Jay. Escola de Samba Denver carries on Escola de Samba Sydney’s dedication to providing progressive Brazilian dance education that is aligned with the latest and evolving dance techniques and artistic styles in Brazil\, with authenticity and respect for the roots of the culture at its core. \nSamba Colorado: Since its founding in 2013\, Samba Colorado is devoted to bringing together people from all walks of life in an artistic\, educational\, and positive community by sharing the joy and beauty of Brazilian culture and dance. They offer classes\, workshops\, dance residencies as well as energetic and exciting performances for both community and private events.

SUMMARY:Classics with Jeffrey Kash: Yesterday\, Today and Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nAug 11\nWinner of the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar® at the 1964 Academy Awards®\, this is a sparklingly original comedy that casts Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren in three different stories set throughout Italy. In Naples\, they are poor but resourceful\, selling black market cigarettes on the streets. In Milan\, Loren is costumed in Christian Dior and debates her preference for a Rolls Royce or her husband. And in Rome\, Mastroianni is an industry scion who helps Loren’s prostitute set a wavering priest back onto the spiritual plane. This episode features Sophia’s famous striptease\, which was recreated 30 years later in Robert Altman’s Ready To Wear. Witty and unforgettable\, this gem from master filmmaker Vittorio de Sica (Two Women\, Marriage Italian Style) is picture-postcard beautiful and effortlessly hilarious. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nAug 15 \nFor decades master model-maker and effects artisan Keizo Murase has crafted memorable monster costumes for the GODZILLA\, GAMERA\, \nDAIMAJIN\, KAMEN RIDER and ULTRAMAN franchises. At the age of 88\, Murase has completed his first feature film as a director\, and it’s truly something special. The kaiju scenes are of course a joy\, but more than it is a generously self-referential rolic\, a venerable master’s reflection on his extensive legacy. In this movie a boy comes across a rabbit\, guardian of a magical brush to prevent the Yamata no Orochi from re-emerging in the modern world. (Keizô Murase\, 2024\, Japan\, 1:14\, NR)
