SUMMARY:Women & the Wind
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nJune 4-8 \nThree women ignite the flames of curiosity and adventure which lay dormant within so many of us\, by deepening our understanding of the synergy between nature and humanity—and by doing so radically\, through a voyage across the North Atlantic on a 50-year-old wooden catamaran. SUMMARY:The Shrouds
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nJune 6 \nIn an eerie\, deceptively placid near-future\, a techno-entrepreneur named Karsh (Vincent Cassel) has developed a new software that will allow the bereaved to bear witness to the gradual decay of loved ones dead and buried in the earth. While Karsh is still reeling from the loss of his wife (Diane Kruger) from cancer—and falling into a peculiar sexual relationship with his wife’s sister (also Kruger)—a spate of vandalized graves utilizing his “shroud” technology begins to put his enterprise at risk\, leading him to uncover a potentially vast conspiracy. Written following the death of the director’s wife\, the new film from David Cronenberg is both a profoundly personal reckoning with grief and a descent into noir-tinged dystopia\, set in an ominous world of self-driving cars\, data theft\, and A.I. personal assistants. Offering Cronenberg’s customary balance of malevolence and wit\, The Shrouds is a sly and thought-provoking consideration of the corporeal and the digital\, the mortal and the infinite. SUMMARY:Cultural Caravan presents Behind the Music: Letters to My Daughters
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nJoin us for a special edition of Behind the Music series—a joint presentation by the Cultural Caravan and the Dairy Arts Center. In this intimate\, onstage conversation\, composer Scott Ordway and cellist Josh Halpern\, Artistic Director of the Cultural Caravan will explore the creative process behind Scott’s new composition Letters to My Daughters\, the Cultural Caravan’s first-ever commissioned work. \nWritten as a series of musical and textual reflections to his young daughters\, Letters to My Daughters responds to the political\, environmental\, and social uncertainty of our time. It asks how we speak to the next generation about the future they’re inheriting—and how music can hold space for both personal reflection and broader cultural questions. \nAbout Scott Ordway:\nScott Ordway is a Philadelphia-based composer and multimedia artist whose acclaimed work often blends music\, text\, video\, and photography to explore themes of ecology\, philosophy\, and the American West. His compositions have been performed at Lincoln Center\, Wigmore Hall\, and the Aspen Music Festival by artists and ensembles including Sasha Cooke\, Roomful of Teeth\, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. In addition to his creative work\, he serves as Associate Professor of Music and Head of Composition at Rutgers University. \nJosh met Scott in 2022 while recording his album The Outer Edge of Youth and was immediately struck by the sonorous beauty of his music and its ability to convey powerful stories. Scott’s wide-ranging interests—from rock music to photography to climate issues—inform a musical voice that audiences will find relatable\, engaging\, and thought-provoking. \nFrom Scott: \n“I am drawn to Josh’s expansive and inspiring vision of what a concert series can be\, and the uncommonly deep relationship he envisions between composer\, performer\, and audience. This speaks directly to my mission to create works of beauty and musical refinement in the service of human values that animate me more generally. Additionally\, it is a rare privilege to be asked to curate the concert on which a new work will be premiered\, offering the opportunity to integrate new musical impulses with those works from the repertoire which taught me what a cello could do and how it could sound and speak and sing.” \nBehind the Music offers audiences a rare opportunity to go beyond the performance: to hear directly from the artists\, explore the stories behind the work\, and engage in an open conversation about music’s role in shaping how we understand the world around us.

SUMMARY:Beethoven's Nine: Ode to Humanity
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nJune 11-15 \nIn early 2023\, filmmaker Larry Weinstein sets out to make a documentary about Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. It is supposed to be about how far we have come in the two hundred years since it was written. But when world events pull Larry into his own film\, the question becomes a deeply personal one. This is a documentary about music\, but also about war and hope. It follows nine unique individuals\, including Ukrainian musicians\, a deaf composer\, a Polish rock star\, a best-selling author\, a legendary cartoonist and Weinstein himself\, as they try to better understand the legacy of Beethoven’s Ninth\, the composer’s own struggles\, the inspiration music can provide\, and how humanity continues to look for hope even in the darkest times. SUMMARY:Slay the Runway- Designing Safe Spaces for Self Expression
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nSlay the Runway is a Firehouse Art Center Fashion Design program offered at no cost to LGBTQIA+ youth and Youth allies to support self expression. Our goal is to be a safe space for teens to explore their own true style in a Gender Expansive and supportive community. \nWith cohorts in Longmont and Boulder\, instructors start with simple projects that improve student sewing and design skills. As confidence builds\, students are challenged to develop their own self identity as they create an outfit for the showcase. At the fashion show\, students unveil something they’ve created in their style and voice while surrounded by a community sharing their life experience. In addition to garment construction and design\, participants will work with make-up artists and choreographers to refine their debuts. While there are fashion camps and sewing classes in the area\, no other local offerings address the issue of safe spaces for gender-expansive youth with this depth of creativity\, and it is the only program that is no cost to participants. \nSlay the Runway’s goal is to create an affirming and accessible space where creativity\, expression\, and positive self-image are celebrated. Involving parents\, youths\, artists\, the LGBTQIA+ community and educators\, we strive to provide access to peer connection\, parent education\, and safe spaces. \nThis program is made possible by SCFD\, the City of Longmont\, OASOS\, CU Boulder\, your donations\, and the never ending enthusiasm and passion of the Slay Team!

SUMMARY:The Elusive Quest for Salvation: Lecture and Dialogue Mixer with Dr. Danielle Hodge
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nThe Elusive Quest for Salvation\, a culmination of the lectures on love and freedom\, looks to Derrick Bell as a paradigm for creating space ripe for future making. Offering counterstories that question what salvation means\, think through different contours of salvation\, and explore how we may arrive at salvation\, this lecture invites a kind of speculation and imagining that sustains our responsibility to\, as the spiritual says\, ‘see what the end will be.’ \nThis event is part of the Juneteenth Lecture Series with Dr. Danielle Hodge. Each of these lectures invoke African American legal scholar Derrick Bell’s seminal\ncontribution\, And We Are Not Saved: The Elusive Quest for Racial Justice\, by situating love\, freedom\, and salvation as perpetually evasive though necessary in our struggle for liberation. SUMMARY:Bank Job
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nJune 25-29 \nArtist/filmmaker team Dan Edelstyn and Hilary Powell live in an area plagued by debt – mortgage debt\, credit card debt\, public debt – which impoverishes families\, communities and public services. So they recruit their neighbors to set up a bank in their High Street to print their own currency which they then sell as art works. The plan is to raise money to support the local school and community projects and\, more daringly\, to buy up over $1 million of the debts of local people. These debts are being sold on the market for a small fraction of their face value. \nBANK JOB follows Dan and Hilary as they succeed in their aim\, eventually (and spectacularly) blowing up the debt in the shadow of London’s financial district. Along the way\, they meet with economists\, politicians and anti-debt campaigners in America (including the late anthropologist David Graeber) to discover how debt is created in our economy and ask important questions about how the system of money creation might be altered in society’s favor…not just to the banking system’s benefit. \nWith wit\, insight\, and gunpowder\, BANK JOB argues that these debts are a result of a monetary system which is impoverishing multitudes by design\, and which could be changed.
