SUMMARY:Wisdom of Happiness | Jan 1-6
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 1-4 \nThis is medicine for the moment — a survival guide for navigating our traumatic world that feels more fractured and uncertain than ever. This powerful message of hope is delivered as a personal audience with one of the greatest living thinkers\, Nobel Peace Prize winner\, Tenzin Gyatso\, known to billions around the world as the Dalai Lama.  Speaking directly to all of us as a single global community\, he shares practical wisdom for finding peace\, compassion\, and hope in the midst of chaos. With disarming clarity and deep humanity\, he invites us to imagine — and help create —  a world where compassion is activated as our strongest force for change\, and happiness is within reach for everyone. (Philip Delaquis & Barbara Miller\,2025\, USA\, 1:30\, NR) \n\n

SUMMARY:Souleymane's Story | Jan 1-4
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 1-4 \nRacing through the streets of Paris making food deliveries on his bicycle\, Guinean immigrant Souleymane (Sangare) is struggling to stay afloat. In two days\, he has to report for an asylum application interview\, where he must plead his case to an immigration officer (Nina Meurisse) who will determine his future in France. As he rides\, he repeats his story. But Souleymane is not ready. Drawing inspiration from Cristian Mungiu’s 4 Months\, 3 Weeks and 2 Days and evoking the humanist films of the Dardennes\, Boris Lojkine’s urgent\, propulsive third feature never leaves Souleymane’s side in a deeply affecting account of the daily trials and uncertain futures faced by migrants in France and around the world. SUMMARY:Serious People | Jan 2
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 2 \nA successful music video director and expectant father pushes his work/life balance to the extreme when he can’t pass up the job of a lifetime and hires a doppelgänger to work in his stead. SERIOUS PEOPLE is a fresh and authentic comedy that explores what it means to be a “director” and a parent — and the replaceability of people in clout-heavy Los Angeles.

DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 7-11 \nKeeping schools open in Ukraine is an attempt to recreate at least some of the normal life they had before the war — until February 24\, 2022 (and in some regions even earlier\, in 2014). Without interviews\, narration and reenactments\, TIMESTAMP provides an insight into how the war is affecting the daily lives of students and teachers. The film has a mosaic-like structure: it explores how a school functions in-person and online in these terrible times\, both on and off the frontline\, how day-to-day life is intertwined with constant danger. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 7-11 \nOn the streets of London\, Mike is hustling to get by. Roadside evangelizers won’t let him sleep in peace\, his slippery friend won’t pay up the money he stole\, and before long\, he finds himself in trouble with the law. As he struggles to reintegrate into society\, shuffling between gigs as a line cook and a trash collector\, he must balance a newfound sense of community with his own itch for self-destruction. (Harris Dickinson\, 2025\, UK\, 1:40\, NR) \nTALKBACK: Stay after the film on Wednesday\, Jan. 7 for a special talkback with Scott Medina\, Director of Community Relations at Bridge House\, and Chad\, a graduate of Bridge House’s Ready to Work program. Scott will share how Ready to Work helps people move out of homelessness through employment\, housing\, and support\, and Chad will offer a powerful first-hand perspective on his own journey from homelessness to stability\, and now to overseeing a large team of current Trainees in the program. This conversation will offer a grounded\, hopeful look at what real change can look like in our community.

SUMMARY:Science on Screen® Fungal Frequencies | Jan 12
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nScience on Screen®: Fungal Frequencies launches the Dairy Arts Center’s exploration of fungi as creative collaborators through movement film\, and scientific discovery. \nThis evening brings together artists\, scientists\, and short film to explore how fungi inspire new forms of artistic expression and ways of seeing. Interdisciplinary artist Iván Daniel Espinosa and mycologists Dr. Alisha Quandt and Mary Childress will offer accessible scientific insight into fungal ecology\, evolution\, and behavior — and preview of the immersive world of MycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi\, opening later this month. \nThe evening concludes with a curated selection of short films from the 2025 Fungi Film Festival\, showcasing how filmmakers around the world are translating fungi into poetic\, playful\, and provocative cinematic forms. \nScientific Lecture & Artist Talk: 6:30 PM; Film Screening: 7:30 PM \nThis event is FREE for Dairy Arts Center Members as part of the Science on Screen® series \n \nABOUT THE SPEAKERS \nIVÁN-DANIEL ESPINOSA\nIván Daniel Espinosa is a choreographer that creates artwork engaged with mycology\, mycelium fungi networks\, avant-garde dance\, climate change and interspecies performance. His recent multimedia art installations integrating mushroom colonies of diverse species with Japanese Butoh dance\, fungal bioacoustics and bio-sonification have been presented at numerous venues such as La Mama Experimental Theatre in NYC\, Seattle International Butoh Festival\, and Roman Susan Art Foundation in Chicago. Iván-Daniel’s performances involving fungi and mushrooms are highlighted in a chapter-length discussion of his work that was published in a 2024 Routledge monograph titled Choreographing Dirt: Movement\, Performance\, and Ecology in the Anthropocene. Iván-Daniel is a PhD Candidate in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder. \nOn January 23-25\, 2026\, Iván-Daniel is premiering a new fungi-themed performance at The Dairy Arts Center titled MycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi through The Dairy Arts Center’s Co-Production Program. \n  \n \nALISHA QUANDT\, PhD\nDr. Alisha Quandt is a mycologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She holds a Ph.D. from the Botany and Plant Pathology Department at Oregon State University. Dr. Quandt’s lab at CU-Boulder studies fungal evolutionary biology — especially the evolution of fungal host and ecological transitions\, fungal diversity and how fungi interact with other microorganisms. In 2024\, Dr. Quandt was awarded the Constantine J. Alexopoulos Prize for outstanding early career mycologist by the Mycological Society of America and the Young Mycologist Award for North America by the International Mycological Association. \n  \n  \nMARY CHILRDESS \nMary Childress is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado Boulder\, working in the Quandt Mycology Lab. Her research interests center on fungal diversity\, systematics\, and plant pathology. She has described three new species of Pseudogymnoascus from Antarctic soils and is currently studying fungal pathogens of Andean endemic trees for her dissertation. \n  \n \nFILM PROGRAM \nAwake: The Dark Night of the Soul (José Antonio Márquez Arroyo Venezuela\, 7:00) \nBumps on Sticks (Riitta Ikonen\, Ben Kinsley\, USA\, 3:56) \nCaverns and Coprophilia (Hamilton Pevec\, USA\, 7:32) \nDo I Know You\, Mushroom?
