Explore expressive drawing techniques inspired by nature! Work with a variety of drawing and painting materials, integrating natural objects like sticks, leaves, pine cones and rocks into the creative process. You will learn about adding a variety of texture, line and scale into your work while pulling inspiration from the natural world.
Open to all levels of artistic experience, for kids and/or adults. One-session, 60 to 90 minutes.
Overview of Activities:
Line variations with ink and stick painting
Creating texture with natural object “frottage” (also known as “rubbings”)
Printing and painting with found natural objects
Get expressive and layer all of it!
Any of the following will work, in any brand. Many of these can be found at Target, Guiry’s or Walmart stores. Use what you have around already too!
Pad or sketchbook of newsprint or drawing paper, any size (or a blank notebook works too)
Drawing materials, any of the following:
Acrylic paint, watercolor, ink or gouache, variety of colors
Watermedia or ink brushes, any size
Jar for water
Paint palette, paper plate or empty cups
Found natural objects:
sticks, in a variety of thin and thick sizes
leaves, dried or fresh
flowers, fresh or dried
