SUMMARY:First Draft to Bookshelf: The Making of a Novel with Author Wallis Kinney
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nThere is no such thing as a perfect first draft. Yet many writers face the blank page with the pressure to get everything right the first time. \nJoin Boulder author Wallis Kinney for a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of her internationally bestselling debut romantic fantasy novel\, A Dark and Secret Magic. Through drafts\, notes\, reader feedback\, and editorial revisions\, Kinney will trace the evolution of her novel from its earliest handwritten ideas to its final published form. \nParticipants will get a rare glimpse into the collaborative process behind writing and publishing a book\, exploring how stories change through revision\, critique\, and creative experimentation. Along the way\, Kinney will share early concepts\, discarded passages\, beta-reader comments\, and editor notes that helped shape the novel into the book readers know today. \nPerfect for writers\, readers\, aspiring authors\, and lovers of all things autumnal\, this engaging discussion offers an opportunity to peek behind the curtain and discover how a story makes its journey from first draft to bookshelf. \nAbout the Author \nWallis Kinney is the author of the internationally bestselling romantic fantasy novel A Dark and Secret Magic. SUMMARY:The Human Animal Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Nov 13 – Jan 31 | Opening Reception: Nov 13\, 5 – 8 \nThis exhibition explores how conceptual artists use imagery of animals\, creatures\, and “the other” to reflect on human nature and the breadth of human experience. Through large-scale installations and sweeping conceptual works\, the exhibition examines the symbolic power of the nonhuman as a mirror through which social\, political\, and psychological realities are revealed. \nFocusing on the figure of the animal—and the idea of the “human as other”—the exhibition interrogates themes of aggression\, dominance\, fear\, and control\, questioning the often false or ironic divide drawn between humanity and the natural world. What we project onto animals and imagined creatures frequently exposes our own instincts\, anxieties\, and contradictions\, revealing how closely intertwined human behavior is with the forces we claim to stand apart from. \nServing as a launching point for dialogue around American legacy\, the exhibition opens space for conversation on politics\, history\, and contemporary cultural and social issues. By situating animal imagery within broader conceptual frameworks\, the works challenge viewers to reconsider narratives of power\, violence\, and belonging\, and to reflect on what it means to be human in relation to the world we inhabit. \nParticipating artists: Jessica Teckermeyer\, Michael Brohman\, Tricia Waddel\, Xan McKenna\, Bailey Anderson\, Creative Nations
