SUMMARY:BETC: Mary Jane | Preview Night - April 30
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nRegional Premiere \nA single mom’s life is turned upside down by her child’s chronic illness. Abandoned by her husband\, she faces reality with a sunny determination that borders on denial. \nA story of a mother’s unbounded love and the makeshift circle of women who support her\, Mary Jane is a beautiful testament to endurance and human kindness in the face of tragedy. \nThe New York Times calls Mary Jane “the most profound and harrowing of all Amy Herzog plays…a character study and everywoman story.”

SUMMARY:The Upstart Crow presents Tartuffe by Moliere | April 30 - May 17
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nThey cloak their spite in fair religion’s name\,\nTheir private spleen and malice being made\nTo seem a high and virtuous crusade. \nMolière’s 1664 masterpiece asks: what if a creepy\, self-righteous fraud moved into your house\, manipulated your family\, and nearly stole everything you owned? Tartuffe is that guy. Dripping with false piety and slick justifications\, he cons a wealthy fool into near-ruin while everyone else watches in horror. It’s a blistering roast of religious hypocrisy that got banned twice. Apparently\, some people recognized themselves. \nThurs 4/30 – 7pm\, Name Your Price Night (no ticketing)\n Sunday 5/3. TALKBACK: Stay in the Carsen Theater after the show for an informal conversation with the cast and crew.\nMon 5/4 – 7pm\, Industry Night fundraiser (no ticketing)\nThurs 5/7 – 7pm\, Name Your Price Night (no ticketing)\nThurs 5/14 – 7pm\, Name Your Price Night (no ticketing)

SUMMARY:Local Theater Company Local Listens: Queer Lineage play readings
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJoin us for staged readings of two new short plays inspired by the stories of LGBTQ+ Coloradans across generations. This event marks the culmination of our season-long project\, Local Listens: Queer Lineage. Tickets are pay-what-you-will. All are welcome! \nThroughout the season\, Local Theater Company brought together LGBTQ+ community members\, ages 19 to 92\, in facilitated story circles. These stories inspired the two 45-minute plays written by Steven J. Burge\, Julie Rada and Miriam Suzanne. \nFollowing the performances\, we invite you to stay for a facilitated conversation about the plays — an opportunity to reflect\, respond\, and continue the dialogue together. \nLearn more about the project and hear selected stories on our website. \nLocal Listens: Queer Lineage is supported in part by the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation\, the Alex Wilson Fund and Cassandra Simon. \nABOUT THE PROJECT\nLocal Listens is a community-inspired new play initiative that focuses on a single social issue for one year. In an increasingly-digital world\, Local Listens intentionally gathers community members in a room\, face-to-face\, for important\, informative\, and illuminating conversations. These story circles\, held at the beginning of every season\, inspire short plays that are presented at the conclusion of the season. In order to enrich the experience for you\, our audience\, throughout the season we showcase a traveling portrait gallery featuring story circle participants. Each portrait is accompanied with an audio recording of a story the subject shared. Listen to these stories and discover the humans behind these complex issues. A resource guide is provided\, offering unbiased context. \nResearch shows that people understand\, remember\, and act on complex social issues more effectively when they are conveyed through lived experience rather than abstract data. Stories increase empathy\, reduce resistance to difficult topics\, and foster shared understanding across differences making them a powerful tool for civic dialogue and social change. \nLocal Listens seeks to build bridges across the chasm of community divides.

SUMMARY:13 Fires | June 24 - 26
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nA powerful new community theater production\, 13 Fires\, will bring the story of one of America’s great Black cultural districts to the stage in Boulder this season in celebration of Juneteenth. The play tells the story of Indiana Avenue in Indianapolis—once a thriving Black neighborhood filled with jazz clubs\, Black-owned businesses and the pioneering entrepreneur Madam C. J. Walker\, and legendary performers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. \nThen the neighborhood was almost completely wiped out. \n13 Fires explores how Indiana Avenue was dismantled during the expansion of Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis\, when property acquisitions\, eminent domain threats\, redlining\, and rising taxes forced families out of the homes and community they had built. Through intimate storytelling and memories of the Avenue’s golden era\, the play confronts the human cost of development and displacement. \nWhile the story unfolds in Indianapolis\, the production speaks directly to ongoing conversations about housing\, belonging\, and community change in Boulder and across Colorado. \nPresented during the Juneteenth season\, 13 Fires is a moving reflection on culture\, displacement\, and the enduring spirit of a people determined to keep their stories alive.

SUMMARY:Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company (BETC): Witch
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nThe devil arrives in a small village to recruit souls\, and business has never been better. Everyone is scrambling to bargain for something. Love\, riches\, and personal validation top the list. \nBut one woman is having none of it\, and she happens to be the woman whom everyone thinks is the town witch. \nJen Silverman’s reworking of the 1621 drama\, The Witch of Edmonton\, is wickedly funny\, surprisingly moving and dangerously entertaining. \nThe play poses the question\, “How much is a soul worth in a world where hope is increasingly hard to come by?” \n

SUMMARY:Motus Theater Presents: No Contract by Kirsten Wilson
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n \n“No Contract” is a one-woman show exploring a mother’s request not to endure dementia. It asks: “is there a way to have dementia without tragedy\, when ‘to be or not to be’ is always the question?” \nCreated by Kirsten Wilson in honor of her mother and loved ones everywhere\, experiencing or caring for people with dementia. \n“No Contract” is a one-woman show by Kirsten Wilson about her mother’s dementia –Marie Wilson\, founder of ‘Take Our Daughters to Work Day\,’ LGBTQ+ leader\, author\, and equity-based feminist. \nThe dramatic ‘contract’ at the heart of this two-act performance is her mother’s request to be killed if she loses her mind. The production blends autobiographical storytelling\, “Hamlet\,” “King Lear\,” karaoke\, and audience engagement to explore the complex tension between choosing life and death—the “to be and not to be” of assisted suicide after a dementia diagnosis. \nIn “No Contract\,” Wilson uses humor & heart to prevent both the performance & her mother’s life from becoming a Lear-like tragedy. As Wilson says in Act One\, “My mother’s life was always supposed to be a romantic comedy\, a 1950’s musical\, except with lesbians dancing in the street. I will not let it turn toward tragedy.” \n*Note Wednesday\, 9/30/26 is a show for immunocompromised people. This show provides the following: Audience capacity is at 30% to provide space for two empty seats between audience members. KN95 masks must be worn by performers and audience members. Air filtration used. 6 feet of space between performers and front row. 6pm performance. See separate Dairy ticketing page to signup. \n**Note Saturday\, 10/3/26 is an all-day workshop and performance: \nSaturday\, Oct. 3rd\, “No Contract” Dementia\, Reflection and Writing Workshop with Kirsten Wilson. Take a day-long deep dive into the impact of caring for family members with dementia or negotiating your own fears of losing your mind with celebrated facilitator and artist Kirsten Wilson. This is an opportunity to gather in community to use the performance to launch your own reflections and writings on the impact of dementia and fears associated with aging. The morning will begin with a performance of Act I\, followed by personal reflections\, writing and discussion on dementia. After a shared lunch within small reflections groups\, a performance of Act II\, with a facilitated dialogue\, writing exercises and reflections. No skill as a writer necessary\, just willingness to courageously explore caregiving\, our mortality\, and dementia in community. (Lunch included in workshop fee). See separate ticketing page to sign up. \n  \n
