SUMMARY:“Teresita’s Dream” Film Screening: Cuba’s Battle Against Alzheimer’s with Live Q&A
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n LIVE STREAM\nPlease join us for a special screening of Teresita’s Dream\, followed by a live Q&A with Dr. William Blanchet. The evening will focus on a promising new treatment for Alzheimer’s disease called NeuroEPO\, which was developed by Cuba’s public biotech sector. More than 55 million people live with Alzheimer’s — but access\, visibility\, and support for NeuroEPO are blocked by U.S. sanctions and outdated Cold War policies. \nTeresita’s Dream follows the extraordinary story of Cuban scientist Teresita Rodríguez. When her mother is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s\, Teresita embarks on a deeply personal and politically complex journey to find a treatment – joined by a team of mostly women scientists. What begins as an effort to help her mother leads to a discovery that could change how the world treats this devastating disease forever. \nSet in the heart of Havana against the backdrop of Cuba’s world-class biotech sector and the relentless challenges posed by the U.S. embargo\, this film is a powerful story of scientific innovation\, love\, hope\, and resilience. \nDr. Blanchet is a Boulder-based physician whose open-minded approach to medicine led him on an unlikely journey from Colorado to Cuba.

SUMMARY:What the River Knows: Presented by Glen Canyon Institute
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nGlen Canyon Institute\, in collaboration with Crow Canyon Archaeological Center\, presents What the River Knows\, a Good Intentions Paving Co. documentary exploring the reemergence of Glen Canyon from the receding waters of Lake Powell reservoir. As the West faces the urgent need to redesign water management\, we are offered the chance to restore one of the planet’s most stunning landscapes. What the River Knows explores this unique reflection point in a centuries-long history\, weaving together past and present to reveal a new way forward for the Colorado River. \nThe evening will open with Glen Canyon Rising\, a documentary short from Crow Canyon Archaeological Center featuring Hopi archaeologist Lyle Balenquah and author Craig Childs. This powerful visual and narrative experience reveals layers of human history embedded in the landscape. As water levels fall\, generations of cultural footprints are revealed\, and dormant ecological systems begin to stir once more. \nFollowing the film screening\, the event will conclude with a panel discussion and audience Q+A.

SUMMARY:Youth Advisory Board: Lady Bird
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nAfter Ferris made skipping school look easy\, Lady Bird shows us a coming-of-age story from a sharper\, more complicated female perspective that we don’t always get from the genre. It’s funny\, awkward\, and painfully relatable\, diving into identity\, class\, friendship\, and the pressure to figure out who you are. The directorial debut of Greta Gerwig (who later made box office history with Barbie)\, Lady Bird it feels like the perfect March pick as we celebrate Women’s History Month. \nAbout the film: A fiercely independent teenager tries to make her own way in the world while wanting to get out of her hometown of Sacramento\, California\, and to get away from her complicated mother and recently-unemployed father. SUMMARY:Coexistence\, My Ass! | Apr 8-12
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nApr 8-12 \nThis documentary follows activist-comedian Noam Shuster Eliassi as she creates a comedy show by the same name. Shot over five tumultuous years\, it traces Noam’s personal\, professional and political journey in tandem with the region’s steady deterioration. Raised in a bilingual Israeli-Palestinian village — the only intentionally integrated community in the country — Noam grows disillusioned with traditional peace activism. She pivots to stand-up and quickly attracts attention across the Middle East. But as her star rises\, everything around her falls apart. With biting satire\, Noam pushes her audiences to face difficult truths that aren’t always funny but do remind us that another reality is possible. (Amber Fares\, 2025\, USA\, 1:35\, NR) \n\n  \n

SUMMARY:The Stranger | Apr 15-19
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nApr 15-19 \nMeursault (Benjamin Voisin) works as a clerk at an office in Algiers during the French colonial occupation. A modest man who keeps to himself\, Meursault finds his routine upended by the sudden death of his mother. At her funeral\, he faces scrutiny from all corners for his failure to perform his grief. This reputation for otherworldly detachment follows Meursault back to Algiers\, where his tentative romance with Marie and his indifference to professional advancement frustrate those around him. As Meursault gets swept up in a cycle of escalating reprisals among his neighbors\, tensions come to a head when he murders an Arab man on the beach. François Ozon’s new take on Albert Camus’s classic novel of existentialist ennui is a landmark of adaptation\, simultaneously faithful to the text and dedicated to discovering fresh perspectives in the margins. (François Ozon\, 2025\, France\, 2:02\, NR) \nTALKBACK: Join us after the film on April 15 for  Talkback with Christopher Braider. \n \nChristopher Braider is an Arts & Sciences Professor of Distinction emeritus in French and Comparative Literature at CU. His scholarly work is mainly focused on early modern European literature\, philosophy\, and art and on aesthetics and the general theory of value. He is also an avid fan of contemporary French cinema. \n\n
