Meet the Maker:
Chapin was born and still resides in Louisville, Colorado. He is a metalsmith, jeweler and designer. Chapin discovered the magic of metalsmithing in 2003.
Chapin began to develop his jewelry skills in high school with a grant he was awarded from Arts Science Knowledge Grants from Impact on Education, Boulder Valley Schools. That is when he met jeweler and master caster, Kit Hollingshead, that is when the magic began. Chapin had the privilege of apprenticing with Kit from 2003-2010.
Chapin earned a BFA in Metalsmith and Jewelry Design from Metropolitan State College of Denver, CO in 2009. His senior thesis show was funded by the Nagel Award. Immediately after graduation he began Dimond Designs as a business doing art exhibits/exhibitions and local festivals.
He also worked for several different Boulder, CO jewelers that are well known, award winning and high end. He continually hones his skills. In 2014 his pieces were being shown in Colorado galleries. In 2015 his business became C Dimond LLC.
Chapin began working full time at his business in 2020. In 2023 his pieces were being shown in seven galleries, and he started doing Fine Art Festivals/Shows. He continually grows and evolves his craftsmanship, process and jewelry designs.
Sharing the magic of metalsmithing is important to Chapin. In 2017 he began teaching workshops at the Boulder Metalsmithing Association and other schools, organizations and venues. He also enjoys teaching one-on-one sessions.
The Louisville Art Association (LLA) was instrumental in supporting Chapin. He became an intern in 2004, a Board Member 2008-2010, and is currently a member. He is also an active member of Colorado Metalsmithing Association (CoMA), Boulder Metalsmithing Association (BoMA), and Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG).
Chapin is inspired by fun, nature and the magic of metals. According to Chapin, “Metalsmithing is the process of telling stories through metal, and releasing the inner “feeling” of what metal wants to be: express life, capture moments, and make and preserve memories.” He works with metal daily, using ancient and modern techniques, manipulating and experimenting. Hearing your stories and collaboratively developing designs is very rewarding to him.
Currently he is designing and creating jewelry in his Louisville, Colorado studio.
“Swing that hammer, light that torch, and make that magic happen.”
