The Day Shall Come

Glenn’s Pick – Glenn Webb, Director of Programs – It became clear after I took off my shoes for the TSA, and then noticed on the plane that I had a sharp-bladed hinged tool in the shape of a key in my pocket. This was to make the public FEEL safe, not be safe. I had beaten Homeland Security without even trying. So it is in THE DAY SHALL COME, a comedy which claims to be “based on a hundred true stories.” An aspiring FBI director has to find a symbolic threat to “neutralize” in order to move up the ranks. The target inspires our empathy, if not our admiration, as he hopes to see the day when “the accidental dominance of the white race is overthrown,” a hope that many of us share. His methods are deliriously delusional but still informed by basic goodness that makes you love the guy almost as much as his odd band of followers. As the sting operation fails, stakes get raised, as does the level of absurdity, to a dizzying climax. As we all fight our own cynicism, let’s remember to laugh at our collective foolishness now and again.
