Fri & Sat, September 12 & 13 | 7:30 pm
Sun, September 14 | 4 pm

Come to a series of serious, zany, thought-provoking, and/or inspiring 10-minute performance pieces including dance, music, theatre, poetry, and visual art co-created by internationally recognized scientists and award-winning artists.
The scientists include biogeochemist Jason Neff, evolutionary biologist Robert Guralnick, and science communication and education specialist Mark McCaffrey. Performers include dancer/performance artist Michelle Ellsworth, poet Jack Collom, visual artist/musician Ken Bernstein, and actors from Curious Theatre’s New Visions project.
MacArthur “Genius Award” recipient Patty Limerick will also perform on the Sunday matinee.
To give you a sense of the flavor of just one of the pieces, Ellsworth describes hers as “a dense and efficient performance piece about ‘the situation’ that employs choreography, chatting, and lubricated ball bearings to explore the complexities and interconnectedness/co-dependence of sex, blame, and science.”

Taken from the writings of Rachel Corrie,
Edited by Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner

On March 16, 2003, Rachel Corrie, a young American peace activist, was killed by an Israel Defense Forces' Caterpillar D9 armored bulldozer while participating in a non-violent protest. Working with the International Solidarity Movement in the Gaza Strip, Rachel was acting as a human shield attempting to prevent the destruction of a Palestinian home by Israeli forces. Whether or not the 23-year-old's death was murder or simply a horrible accident remains in dispute and the story of her death has sparked controversy for what will probably be years to come. Importantly, Rachel's life was documented through her own words recorded in personal journals and in correspondence to her friends and family. After her death, Rachel's family released some of these writings and her words and story moved British actor, Alan Rickman and London Guardian journalist, Katharine Viner to arrange her writings into a moving and poignant play about what it means to be young, idealistic, and human.
