Board of Directors

OFFICERS
E. Richard Polk, Chair

Richard Polk is President and co-founder of Boulder’s 40-year-old Pedestrian Shops, noted for its social programs and green business practices. Richard has served on Boulder City Council as well as on a variety of boards and commissions, including chair of the original Downtown Mall Commission, chair of the Downtown Management Commission, president of the Polk Family Charitable Fund, president of the Boulder Parks and Recreation Foundation, and board member of Downtown Boulder Inc.

While serving on the City Council, Richard proposed Boulder’s socially innovative Solar Rebate ordinance, which contributed to a dramatic increase in solar installations, while funding additional solar arrays on Boulder affordable housing and nonprofits’ rooftops.

Since completing his council term in 2007, Richard has joined the Citizens Advisory Board of the Xcel Renewable Energy Trust, and is vice chair of the Colorado Chautauqua Association board and vice chair of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce board.  

Richard Reeves, Vice Chair

Richard Reeves is co-founder of Boundaryless Propulsion Inc, an early stage start-up developing a novel propulsion system known as the Relativistic Electromagnetic Motor.

He is also a consultant to industry, government, international organizations, and non-profit organizations, providing strategic support in a variety of areas including management, business development, proposal support, organizational development and strategic planning. Clients have included the International Monetary Fund, Center for Disease Control, NASA, the German Aerospace Center, Mitsubishi International Corporation and numerous top 500 U.S. companies.

Richard formerly was deputy for aeronautics and space transportation technology at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, responsible for the direction of NASA’s Aeronautics Enterprise with a budget of over $1 billion and four national research laboratories.  He held other senior positions at NASA, including director of planning, associate director for the Ames Research Center and director for Management Operations at the Goddard Space Flight Center.

Richard is past chair of the Open Studios board of directors. He has a law degree from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia State University.  


Amy Hartman, Secretary

Amy Hartman is owner of Hartman Employment Law Practice LLC, a boutique Boulder law firm specializing in labor and employment law, and has lived in Boulder since moving here from Chicago in 2000. She has practiced labor and employment law during her 20-year legal career.

Prior to starting Hartman Employment Law she was a partner at the firms of Cooley Godward Kronish in Colorado and Seyfarth, Shaw in Chicago.

Her experience in workplace law ranges from negotiating with striking employees at a coal mine in Sheridan, Wyoming, to counseling employers on diverse issues ranging from pets in the office to theft of trade secrets, as well as working with startup companies to Fortune 100 employers. Amy also has extensive litigation experience in all aspects of the employment relationship. Her practice includes a focus on employment matters related to emerging companies. She is a member of the Colorado and Illinois state bars.

Amy earned undergraduate and law degrees from Georgetown University.   


Gregory Johnson, Treasurer

Greg Johnson is a Lead Advisor at Gold Medal Waters, a Boulder financial planning and investment management firm, working with clients to help them identify and achieve their financial goals.

He was a founder and Vice President, Technology of Buzzwire, where he did initial technology investigations, assisted with prototype creation and managed third-party technical relationships. He also has worked for Qualcomm and Ericsson as a Vice President of Engineering, focusing on development of products for cellular telephone systems, and with Ohmeda Medical Systems as software project leader.

He is a candidate for CFP certification and a magna cum laude graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in computer science.


BOARD MEMBERS

Trevor Bynum

Trevor Bynum joined WhiteWave Foods in 2006 and currently is Vice President of Marketing for Creamer brands and WhiteWave Foodservice. He manages an $800 million portfolio that includes International Delight, Land O Lakes, Silk and Horizon brands, and leads all of WhiteWave Foods Foodservice activities.

Previously he worked with General Mills in Minneapolis, managing the brands such as Chex and Total cereals, Totino’s Pizza Rolls and Honey Nut Cheerios.

Trevor served in the U.S. Army for eight years, rising to the rank of Captain.

He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and has an MBA degree from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

Jon Chambers

Jon Chambers is owner and manager of Chambers Architecture Inc., with over 20 years of architectural and construction experience with residential, medical and commercial projects.

He is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and LEED Accredited architect who specializes in sustainable, energy efficient practices and has received recognition from the Colorado Renewable Energy Society and the State of Colorado’s E-Star rated builder program. He is currently involved with a four-unit youth treatment center at Lowry in Denver and with The Dairy’s Boedecker Theater.

Jon has also worked with Parrish Design Studio in Boulder, Olson Architecture in Niwot, and in a previous business, Chambers Architects and Builders, designing and building commercial and residential addition/remodel projects. He worked with Davis Partnership in Denver on projects including research labs for Synergen and Somatagen and labs and offices for National Jewish Hospital, and with Gobbel Hays Partners in Nashville, Tennessee.

He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Boulder Chamber of Commerce.

Jon, a sculptor, has a bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Evansville, Indiana, and a master’s of architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver.  

Susan Deans

Sue Deans has spent 30 years as a journalist, including positions as Editor and Vice President of both the Daily Camera in Boulder and The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She also worked as an assistant managing editor at the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, where she was involved in editing two Pulitzer Prize-winning stories.

She retired from the Camera in 2007 and since then has taught journalism as a visiting professor at Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., and devotes considerable time to volunteering with Boulder nonprofits. She received a Women Who Light the Community award from the Boulder Chamber of Commerce in 2009.

In addition to the Dairy Center board, Sue serves on the boards of the Boulder Rotary Club, Imagine! Foundation, and the Boulder History Museum, and is vice president of Historic Boulder’s board.

She has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado-Boulder, where she serves on the advisory board for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and a bachelor’s degree in English from Knox College, where she is a member of the Board of Trustees.  

Angelique Espinosa

Angelique Espinosa recently served on the Boulder City Council and represented the council on The Dairy’s board of directors. As a council member, she worked successfully to renew critical sales taxes increases and property tax reform projected to preserve over $10 million in revenue and generate millions in new revenue annually.

Previously she was a partner in Free Range Geeks, which works with customers to provide software training and technical assistance. Angelique also has worked with Intercambio de Comunidades as a program development consultant, with International Language Engineering as a support technician and with the Geological Society of America in technical support and as assistant to the executive director.

She has volunteered with Reading to End Racism, the Boulder Business and Professional Women, as affirmative action coordinator for the Boulder County Democratic Party, and as volunteer organizer for the Boulder County Latino Initiative. She is a member of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce.

Angelique was named Woman of the Year by the Boulder Business and Professional Women in 2009 and received the “Give ’em Hell Harry” Award from the Boulder County Democratic Party in 2006.

She has a master’s degree in religious studies from the University of Colorado and a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of California, Berkeley.

Stacey Kramer

Stacey Kramer is the founder of Brandplay, a brand consulting firm. Brandplay provides brand strategy consulting and also specializes in creating strategic, impactful names for national and global companies.

She has nearly 20 years of experience in advertising, branding and name development in more than 100 different industries. Clients have included Apple, Intel, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nike, Levi-Strauss, Nestle, Hewlett-Packard, Rainier Beer, Atari, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream and Montgomery Ward.

Previously she worked with Lexicon Branding and Chiat/Day in Northern California and Saffer Cravit in Chicago.

Stacey has bachelor’s degrees in economics and communications from Stanford University.   

Padraic McCoy

Padraic McCoy’s law practice has focused on Indian tribes and their Indian country partners, with a particular emphasis in Indian lands and including federal Indian law, land into trust/land consolidation, Indian land determinations, reservation proclamations, leases, gaming, debt financing, environmental law, federal recognition and BIA and NIGC processes.

He is a descendant of the Quechan Nation (Fort Yuma Reservation), and has recently joined McCoy Indian Law as managing partner. Previously he was an associate with Faegre & Benson law firm in Boulder and has worked with law firms in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. He is a member of the Federal, Colorado, California and Boulder Bars, as well as the Colorado Indian and Native American Bar Associations.

Padraic has a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Irvine; and a law degree and a master’s degree in American Indian Studies from the University of California at Los Angeles.

He is a musician who plays tenor and soprano saxophone.

Catherine Moll

Catherine Moll is a marketing professional with more than 12 years of experience in developing successful marketing strategies and client relationships in consumer, technology and business-to-business markets.

She has worked in brand strategy with Volan Design in Boulder, where she was responsible for new business development, brand strategy development and project management, working with companies such as Samsung, Nokia and Hansgrohe; as an account manager with Oden Marketing and Design in Memphis, where she worked with the firm’s top client, FedEx; and in positions with Insight Services in Memphis and Cleveland in the oil analysis business.

She also was a TV producer and assignment editor with WKYC in Cleveland.

Catherine has a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Boston University.

Kevin Mynatt

Kevin Mynatt has more than 18 years of management experience with arts organizations. He most recently served as managing director for the Central City Opera House Association.

Previously he was director of production for the Portland Opera Association and has worked with many other arts organizations, including Opera Omaha, where he was production manager/technical director, and Chautauqua Opera, where he worked in production and lighting design.

He has a master of fine arts degree in theater design and lighting design from Brandeis University and a bachelor of fine arts in technical theater from Central Missouri State University.

Sharon Nehls

Sharon Nehls, a longtime teacher, is a young adult literature consultant and also teaches webpage design classes for Boulder Valley Public Schools. She taught at Southern Hills Middle School, where she chaired the English department.

She won an Impact on Education Award in 2002 from the Boulder Valley Foundation on Public Schools and was nominated in 1997 for National Teacher of the Year.

Her interests include screenwriting, film criticism and musical theater.

She has a master’s degree from the University of Denver in educating gifted children, and a bachelor’s degree from Miami University of Ohio.

Donna Gartenmann

Since 1988, Donna Gartenmann has been arts and culture manager for the City of Boulder. She serves on the Dairy Center’s board of directors as the city’s arts liaison.

Her duties with the city include managing arts-related issues, administering grants programs for Boulder artists and organizations, assisting other city departments with arts-related issues, promoting and marketing the arts in Boulder, and overseeing the schedule for performances and exhibits at the Boulder Public Library.

Donna works with numerous arts organizations in Boulder County in addition to her duties with the city. She has served on boards including the Longmont Art in Public Places Commission, president of the Old Firehouse Art Center Board, on the Colorado Council Library Development board and the Boulder Convention and Visitors Bureau board, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District and the City of Boulder Economic Vitality Committee.
