E. Richard Polk, Chair – President and Co-Founder, Boulder’s Pedestrian Shops
Richard Polk is President and co-founder of Boulder’s 40-year-old Pedestrian Shops, noted for its social programs and green business practices. Richard has served on Boulder City Council as well as on a variety of boards and commissions, including chair of the original Downtown Mall Commission, chair of the Downtown Management Commission, president of the Polk Family Charitable Fund, president of the Boulder Parks and Recreation Foundation, and board member of Downtown Boulder Inc.
While serving on the City Council, Richard proposed Boulder’s socially innovative Solar Rebate ordinance, which contributed to a dramatic increase in solar installations, while funding additional solar arrays on Boulder affordable housing and nonprofits’ rooftops.
Since completing his council term in 2007, Richard has joined the Citizens Advisory Board of the Xcel Renewable Energy Trust, and is vice chair of the Colorado Chautauqua Association board and vice chair of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce board.
Marc Ginsberg, Vice-Chair – Principal, Flatirons Technology Group
Marc Ginsberg grew up in New Jersey and is the youngest of six children whose parents emigrated from Canada shortly before he was born. He attended College in Vermont and worked as a software engineer at Intel Corporation in Oregon for 6 years, prior to returning to Boulder. In 2001 he started and currently runs a Boulder-based information technology consulting firm.
In addition to The Dairy Center and the Business Improvement District (BID), Marc has served on other Boulder boards, including The Boulder JCC, Menorah, B’Yahad.
He has two elementary school children and a beautiful wife of fifteen years.
Amy Hartman, Secretary – Hartman Employment Law Practice, LLC
Amy Hartman is owner of Hartman Employment Law Practice LLC, a boutique Boulder law firm specializing in labor and employment law, and has lived in Boulder since moving here from Chicago in 2000. She has practiced labor and employment law during her 20-year legal career.
Prior to starting Hartman Employment Law she was a partner at the firms of Cooley Godward Kronish in Colorado and Seyfarth, Shaw in Chicago.
Her experience in workplace law ranges from negotiating with striking employees at a coal mine in Sheridan, Wyoming, to counseling employers on diverse issues ranging from pets in the office to theft of trade secrets, as well as working with startup companies to Fortune 100 employers. Amy also has extensive litigation experience in all aspects of the employment relationship. Her practice includes a focus on employment matters related to emerging companies. She is a member of the Colorado and Illinois state bars.
Amy earned undergraduate and law degrees from Georgetown University.
Kreighton Bieger, Treasurer – Portfolio Manager & Analyst, Sargent Bickham Lagudis
Kreighton Bieger, CFA, currently is a Portfolio Manager and Analyst with Sargent Bickham Lagudis in Boulder, CO. The company has been providing customized wealth management and financial planning solutions for individuals and institutions for over 20 years.
His skill set and experience include portfolio management, asset allocation, grassroots equity research, securities analysis, modeling, forecasting, valuation, credit analysis, statistical methods, qualitative research, relationship management, negotiating, and team leadership. Kreighton co-manages approximately $350M in equities, fixed income and alternative assets. He has driven projects in in-depth equity research and private company asset and ESOP valuations, as well as managed a $25M+ A/R portfolio for credit risk and deal flow.
Kreighton is a results-driven team player and proactive leader who has successfully structured and executed hiring new employees and mentored junior teammates. He graduated from University of Colorado at Boulder – Bachelor of Science with Distinction, Finance.

Trevor Bynum – Marketing Director, Whitewave Foods
Trevor Bynum joined WhiteWave Foods in 2006 and currently is Vice President of Marketing for Creamer brands and WhiteWave Foodservice. He manages an $800 million portfolio that includes International Delight, Land O Lakes, Silk and Horizon brands, and leads all of WhiteWave Foods Foodservice activities.Previously he worked with General Mills in Minneapolis, managing the brands such as Chex and Total cereals, Totino’s Pizza Rolls and Honey Nut Cheerios.
Trevor served in the U.S. Army for eight years, rising to the rank of Captain.
He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and has an MBA degree from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
Jon Chambers – Principal, Chambers Architecture, Inc.
Jon Chambers is owner and manager of Chambers Architecture Inc., with over 20 years of architectural and construction experience with residential, medical and commercial projects.He is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and LEED Accredited architect who specializes in sustainable, energy efficient practices and has received recognition from the Colorado Renewable Energy Society and the State of Colorado’s E-Star rated builder program. He is currently involved with a four-unit youth treatment center at Lowry in Denver and with The Dairy’s Boedecker Theater.
Jon has also worked with Parrish Design Studio in Boulder, Olson Architecture in Niwot, and in a previous business, Chambers Architects and Builders, designing and building commercial and residential addition/remodel projects. He worked with Davis Partnership in Denver on projects including research labs for Synergen and Somatagen and labs and offices for National Jewish Hospital, and with Gobbel Hays Partners in Nashville, Tennessee.
He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Boulder Chamber of Commerce.
Jon, a sculptor, has a bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Evansville, Indiana, and a master’s of architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver.
Susan Deans – Editor, Journalism
Sue Deans has spent 30 years as a journalist, including positions as Editor and Vice President of both the Daily Camera in Boulder and The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She also worked as an assistant managing editor at the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, where she was involved in editing two Pulitzer Prize-winning stories.She retired from the Camera in 2007 and since then has taught journalism as a visiting professor at Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., and devotes considerable time to volunteering with Boulder nonprofits. She received a Women Who Light the Community award from the Boulder Chamber of Commerce in 2009.
In addition to the Dairy Center board, Sue serves on the boards of the Boulder Rotary Club, Imagine! Foundation, and the Boulder History Museum, and is vice president of Historic Boulder’s board.
She has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado-Boulder, where she serves on the advisory board for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and a bachelor’s degree in English from Knox College, where she is a member of the Board of Trustees.
George Karakehian – City Council Liaison
George Karakehian has owned Art Source International, located at 1237 Pearl St. for 30 years.He has been actively involved in the Downtown Boulder community since 1975.Over the years, he has served on the board of directors for the Downtown Management Commission and has been the chair of the Downtown Boulder, Inc. (DBI) board of directors.Karakehian also sits on the Downtown Management Committee as well as the Marketing and Event Committees for DBI.Karakehian and his wife, Kristin have two children and two grandchildren.

Brandplay provides brand strategy consulting and also specializes in creating strategic, impactful names for national and global companies.She has nearly 20 years of experience in advertising, branding and name development in more than 100 different industries. Clients have included Apple, Intel, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nike, Levi-Strauss, Nestle, Hewlett-Packard, Rainier Beer, Atari, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream and Montgomery Ward.Previously she worked with Lexicon Branding and Chiat/Day in Northern California and Saffer Cravit in Chicago.

Catherine Moll – Marketing Professional
Catherine Moll is a marketing professional with more than 12 years of experience in developing successful marketing strategies and client relationships in consumer, technology and business-to-business markets.She has worked in brand strategy with Volan Design in Boulder, where she was responsible for new business development, brand strategy development and project management, working with companies such as Samsung, Nokia and Hansgrohe; as an account manager with Oden Marketing and Design in Memphis, where she worked with the firm’s top client, FedEx; and in positions with Insight Services in Memphis and Cleveland in the oil analysis business.She also was a TV producer and assignment editor with WKYC in Cleveland.
Catherine has a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Boston University.
Sharon Nehls – Educator
Sharon Nehls, a longtime teacher, is a young adult literature consultant and also teaches webpage design classes for Boulder Valley Public Schools. She taught at Southern Hills Middle School, where she chaired the English department.She won an Impact on Education Award in 2002 from the Boulder Valley Foundation on Public Schools and was nominated in 1997 for National Teacher of the Year.Her interests include screenwriting, film criticism and musical theater.
She has a master’s degree from the University of Denver in educating gifted children, and a bachelor’s degree from Miami University of Ohio.
Richard Reeves – Consultant, Strategic Planning and Organizational Development
Richard Reeves is co-founder of Boundaryless Propulsion Inc, an early stage start-up developing a novel propulsion system known as the Relativistic Electromagnetic Motor.
He is also a consultant to industry, government, international organizations, and non-profit organizations, providing strategic support in a variety of areas including management, business development, proposal support, organizational development and strategic planning. Clients have included the International Monetary Fund, Center for Disease Control, NASA, the German Aerospace Center, Mitsubishi International Corporation and numerous top 500 U.S. companies.
Richard formerly was deputy for aeronautics and space transportation technology at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, responsible for the direction of NASA’s Aeronautics Enterprise with a budget of over $1 billion and four national research laboratories. He held other senior positions at NASA, including director of planning, associate director for the Ames Research Center and director for Management Operations at the Goddard Space Flight Center.
Richard is past chair of the Open Studios board of directors. He has a law degree from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia State University.
Dusty Reid – Marketing Event Manager, Google
Dusty has lived in Colorado since 1998. He is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah and is an experienced outdoorsman. He enjoys skiing, river running, biking and hiking. He spent summers in Alaska being a river and mountain bike guide before entering the “professional” world. He has been in the event industry for most of his career. Dusty is the Marketing Event Manager at Google, he manages the creative design, strategic messaging and logistics of Google’s international events. One of the things that drives his love for events is his ability to implement creative designs by transforming a venue into a completely unexpected interactive experience for event attendees. He has a BS in Marketing from the University of Utah.
Janet Salmons – Boulder Arts Commission Representative
Janet Salmons has served on the graduate faculty of the Capella University School of Business and Technology since 1999. She develops and teaches courses in leadership and team leadership, serves as dissertation mentor for doctoral learners, and as lead faculty for residential colloquia. She consults on e-learning and e-research through her company, Vision2Lead, Inc..
Previously, Janet founded and directed Cornell Theatre Outreach and the Community-Based Arts Project at Cornell University, and she was the national director of affiliate services for MAGIC ME America; an intergenerational arts and community service program. She served as a National Endowment for the Arts site visitor for 12 years, and as a panelist for the Colorado Creative Industries. She served on the editorial board and as a guest editor and writer for the Kennedy Center newsletter for professional artists with disabilities, Opening Stages.
Dr. Salmons edited Cases in Online Interview Research (2012) and wrote Online Interviews in Real Time (2010) from Sage Publications. She edited the Handbook of Research on Electronic Collaboration and Organizational Synergy with Lynn Wilson (2009), published by IGI Global. This collection contains 50 peer reviewed chapters from researchers from 20 countries and diverse disciplines. She contributed chapters to Lexicon of Online and Distance Education (2010), the Encyclopedia of Information Technology Curriculum Integration (2007) and Student Plagiarism in an Online World Problems and Solutions (2007). Dr. Salmons is a frequent presenter for face-to-face, online and virtual world seminars and conferences.
Janet completed her doctoral studies at the Union Institute and University with research in online collaboration in leadership education. She earned an MA in Social Policy Studies from Empire State College, State University of New York, and a BS in Adult Education from Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology.
Anita Schwartz - VP of Development, Communications and Program Administration,
Western Resource Advocates
Ms. Schwartz joined WRA in 2004. She manages the organization’s fund raising and communications activities. Before joining WRA, Ms. Schwartz worked at Environmental Defense Fund where she managed fund raising efforts in a seven-state region. She previously worked at The Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder to transform an abandoned 40,000 square-foot dairy building into a multi-disciplinary community arts center. In that capacity, she managed a capital campaign, hosted a live television program, and conducted marketing and community outreach. Ms. Schwartz started her non-profit career at Conservation International in Washington, D.C. in 1990. She has served on the board of directors of Open Studios, First Congregational Church of Boulder, and the Boulder Institute for Psychotherapy and Research. In addition to her work at WRA, Ms. Schwartz is the co-owner of a small business that is ranked as one of the top 25 woman-owned businesses in Boulder County. Ms. Schwartz has a B.A. from American University in Washington, D.C., with a double major in literature and American studies. Ms. Schwartz is a Certified Fund Raising Executive, having secured an internationally-recognized professional credential for philanthropic fundraising executives. |
